Brooks last season poll
 

Doing this to get a good number of how many people want brooks gone after this season or even now. Running poll for 7 days so you can take in the next game and have some time to cool down after he blows another one. Also made a lot of choices to get a good idea of mindsets.

Keep him in until the end of the season. If the Saints don't get a better qb by next year then start A-Mac. Let him learn before you throw him into the fire. I am afraid, however, that A-Mac is similar or the same as Brooks. Kind of like Black on black and Billy.

87% so far Brooks should be gone after this season. I wonder who the two keep him votes were? :roll:

I voted for starting AMac. My problem with him is that he looks to be of the same mold as AB. Maybe his personality and game management will be different.

When looking at it from the "we're going to be looking for a new QB this offseason" perspective, it just makes sense to go ahead and find out what kind of player AMac might be. Even if he is completely horrible, I wouldn't cut him. I just want to see what he might do. Putting Bouman in makes no sense at all. AMac is the only one of our 3 QBs that should be on the roster by next training camp.

I was one. If you draft a rookie or develop A-Mac, you keep him. If you trade for a veteran, he may be expendable.

Thanks for answering Tally. If AB were a QB I wanted mentoring my rookie, i'd keep him. But I don't think he would be. I think he'd be a poison. This is Mr. Great QB struggling and inconsistent team remember? I don;t want him anywhere near any rookie we draft if we got Leinart or a Marcus Vick or vince young, and I am sorry A-Mac has to see this. Maybe he can make a video of just what not to do at QB. We could call it the AB career highlight package. Watch this, and do the opposite. :D

I agree with Whodi, AB can barely articulate a play in the huddle in less than 36 seconds much less advise a young QB how to read defenses. What specific value would he create by keeping him?

I wasn't considering AB so much as a mentor for a rookie or A-Mac, but as a veteran QB with game experience. I know many here think his experience hasn't been the greatest. But, to me anyway, you gotta have a veteran while you develop a youngster. Rookies have been thrown to the wolves and been successful. But they are few and far between...


Some folks are quick to write off A-Mac..... or so it seems. He may very well be the answer with Haz or his replacement. Maybe not. I'm certainly not opposed to seeing him this season. If he does play, we must be careful not to jump on him because of his "rookieness", for lack of a better word. I suspect, even if he was polished at this point, he'd probably be faced with some of the same negatives AB is dealing with. O-line, scheme, Haz....

Bouman? He's probably a great guy, knows the system and carries a mean clip-board. Had to keep him.


I have no idea what the Saint's QB future is. I suspect AB won't be a big part of it. But unless we sign a veteran with game experience, I think he'll be around next year.

I see what you are driving at Tally, and there is certainly nothing wrong with that line of thinking, but if we started A-Mac or some other rookie next year, I would agree we need a veteran back-up, just not AB. For one, his salary would be so far out of line with back-ups it's obscene. He is already rated one of the most overrated starters. Second, does it seem like this team believes in AB? Like they are selling out at all costs to protect him? Doesn't seem that way to me. But if there is even a chance they aren't, then they would have even less faith in him as a back-up should he be called on to go out and play.

Another thing is, I am not writing off A-Mac, but there are QBs in the draft who are much further along than he is, Leinart definitely. Young and Vick seems like it. I agree we should see A-Mac this year just to see where he is. Hell, we may not even have to draft a QB if he does better than what we currently are seeing. You would have to assume natural progression, but we already assumed that far too long already with AB. I say if we have a shot at Leinart, we have to do it. Young or Vick, depends on how A-Mac looks should he get to play. If he doesn't, their college experience over A-Mac's can't be ignored.

Tally, you made me think for a moment about what I would want to see vs. what would be best for the team. What would keeping an over-paid, under-performing, petulant, short attention spanned, low-wattage guy like AB on the bench tell the up and comer - if we have to replace you, your replacement is Bozo the Clown? Save the cap room, pick up Kurt Warner to teach the guy to read D's (at $1 million, a pretty cheap backup) and buy a LB or two with the extra cheese.

I voted to keep Brooks in till the end of the season...gives us a better shot at an early draft pick.
But since the front office doesn't know what to do with draft picks, I guess it doesn't really matter.

Again, I value AB's on-field experience while working a rookie in more than his mentor value....or perhaps a seasoned QB of equal or greater value.



You may be putting the cart before the horse here. It seems you are assuming the rookie or A-Mac would be the starter. That would be great! But there's a distinct possibility that either would be a little green. My thinking is we must go into next season with a veteran starting... or at least prepared to.




Yep. Good point. One that can't be dismissed. There is no easy answer here, salary wise, in a potential QB mix of high-dollar rookie and veteran.

That's been one of the excuses for about 5 years now jen. Time to turn the page. :wink:

The offensive line is doing fine, considering that the opposing defenses are sending 6 rushers, and 8 in the box while the running backs and tight ends are playing what Walt "Clyde" Fraser terms as "Matador D", barely getting any contact with blitzers or containing on the edges for running plays. The wide receivers block like girls protecting their breasts.

Don't wanna be a smart-arse. But I'm tempted to give you my home phone number so you can call me next time you see the O-line blowin' a defense off the ball when we run.

Where I'm not able to see all the games. I've seen wideouts lay out an aggressive block or two. Stallworth's efforts come to mind.

The line's efforts against the pass are noble, just not successful.

The fact that the rushing game is much improved over last year in terms of yds per carry (4.34 vs 3.94) and yds per game (120.1 vs 91.75) speaks to the reasonable play of the O-line, despite losing Deuce. I think that part of the problem is the "simplified" offense. It calls for fewer formations, fewer motion options and fewer play options per formation. It doesn't seem like the opposing team has too much trouble seeing what's coming (even I know what they'll call and I "watch" most games over the GameCast internet connection). Knowing what's coming gives the opposing defense way too much of an advantage, and even more so over the Saints' O-line for long yardage situations. Opposing D's blitz well over 60% of the time anyway, and almost always on 3rd downs.

Just curious? What did we see of A-Mac at Florida State on how he read defenses? If he was good then under Bobby Bowden, who is in my opinion one of the best coaches ever, what is taking Haslett and company so long to make a change?? If it is because they wanna keep a over-paid QB in to work him as much as they can?? You know get your monies worth!!! Yeah right they are not getting their monies worth. Just get A-Mac ready to go in this Sunday against the Bears. If Brooks is making rookie mistakes I would rather have a real rookie doing them. It can't hurt!!!! Get A-Mac in and you never know could be a great thing for the team. This is where I think Brooks needs to step down for the team!!! Not quit but just let somebody else try to do something for the team.

I hope not, but this is about par for the course for the Saints.

Great comments about the future of the QB for this team. It's actually nice to see a disscussion about Brooks where the thread is not clogged with stats or how wonderful or pityful brooks is.

Nice to seee things not get ugly. Well until after the bears game anyway :P

Lynwood, what's your take? Do you think that the Saints still have that "wonderful" ability to bet the farm on bad talent, like Harrington?

I don't really know what this team will do. After this season who knows who will be the coach or if the saints will still even be in Louisiana. We've basically ben betting the farm with brooks at the helm for the past 5 years. At this point just testing the water on any unproven talent would be welcome.

Man I cant stand if the brooks smile after bad play !!! if i were haslett and brooks walked over to the sideline sry bout the interception coach i would say no problem AB then slash his throat i mean just like that no problem AB them BAM !!! If i were gunna throw my headset at anybody in that flacons game it would be brooks !!!! :cursing: :dance2:

Looks like someone may have pee in their wheaties? Damn AllSaints, when we said cut him we didn't mean kill the brother.

Well Friday wasnt one of my best days, I am just sick and Tired of Brooks....

We all feel your pain, even BOB does. He is as pissed off at Brooks as everyone else, just having a problem with letting go.
