You're right. In all actuality, we were eliminated from playoff contention the prior week in that 14-7 (i think?) loss to Tampa Bay. I've defended Brooks, but I can honestly say that he and only he cost us that Tampa Bay game. Every time we'd get down in scoring position, he'd ****ing mishandle the snap or the ball would drop from his hands.
But anyway, back to your original statement.....yes we had some sliver of a chance heading into the Jacksonville game that relied on a couple of scenerios happening......and if I'm remembering right, one of them involved Arizona beating Seattle that day (Seattle had to lose the remainder of their games for us to get in). Seattle wound up beating Arizona with no problem. I will double check to make sure.
Keep in mind, though, the reason most people can't "let it go" has nothing to do with us losing out on our microscopic playoff hopes.............it had more to do with the fact that the Saints pulled off probably the greatest play in NFL history, and then a freakin extra point of all things kept us from sealing the deal. It's tough to accept, but we also have to remember that the extra point would have only tied the game...........we could have still lost in overtime, although I figure Jacksonville's heart was pretty much ripped out after that play.
