Riddle me this... why didn't the Saints take a look at Rudd, Miller, or Holmes?
I brought up the Browns linebackers, all of whom were released early this off-season, months ago. As far as I can tell, the Saints didn't even consider any of these guys. Now, Tampa has signed Dwayne Rudd, and believe it has made thiem faster and more athletic. Granted, I know Rudd's an OLB, but c'mon... what are we doing here? Supposedly, Ernie Conwell is supposed to be in NO tomorrow. Other than Gandy and the TJ talks, that's the only positive news I've heard all off-season. Let's see if they even make this guy an offer. |

Yes. Corner and Safety are both other big areas of need... especially now that Knight is gone.
Still, Carter, Ambrose, Thomas, and Craver make a pretty decent secondary. Mitchell is a risk, but hopefully he works out. I still think the Saints will make a play for a FS, but otherwise that is as much a need as LB. Allen, Hodge, and Ruff make up a pretty big question mark though. I still think we need something more at LB. |

Couldn\'t agree more. Something smells with this defense, and it\'s not just our DT corp. I\'m looking at our LB crew. I\'ll give Allen a shot, since he was a rookie last year, but I\'m not completely sold on Hodge. He has the makings, but doesn\'t seem too aggressive on the pass rush. And I would rather not get started on our MLB tandem again, I don\'t think my heart could take it.
With the addition of one more guy in this year\'s draft, our secondary will be very formidable 2-3 years down the road, mark my words. It\'s not great now, but it will be. With Knight gone, Mitchell is the hardest hitter on the team. If we could somehow pickup Newman/Trufant in the draft, I would love for the Saints to play \"kiss and make up\" with Knight and bring him back here. That way, we could draft a safety and groom him to take Knight\'s spot in a few years. I think with a healthy Carter, and another shutdown corner on the opposite side of the field, coupled with a decent pass rush, would return Knight to pro bowl status. |
The waiting drove me mad....
I don't want to hear from those that know... Everything has changed, absolutely nothing's changed Eddie is a....draftnik? |

I just don\'t buy this logic of \"they have a plan and they\'re following that plan.\" Do you guys honestly think that coming into the off-season their plan was to find a no-name backup MLB whose history is sporatic at best and an older veteran whose lost a step at CB? That was their plan in January? And even if you believe it was, how can you say it was a good plan? With all the needs at D. With as bad as it was last season... how can you guys be behind a plan that makes our talent level WORSE on defense? Who cares if it\'s before the draft or after it. Taking steps backwards at any point is bad... to me at least.

im gonna throw a wrench into this convo..... this is ONLY speculation..... not a rumor, or anything, so dont take it literally, but what IF, the saints are holding off on signing a safety to see what kind of offers sammy knight is getting. just recently he hasnt had any huge offers and if he doesnt get the kind of $$ he thought he would get, he might consider coming back.

That\'s a possibility... but weren\'t they glad to see him go? After all, you could roll a big rock across the field faster than he could run across it right? Hey, I\'m all for keeping Knight, but does that mean moving Mitchell to FS? I like Knight a lot... I was one of the guys who wanted him to stay most. I just don\'t see it. They want someone with speed more than they want a hitter, and let\'s be honest, that\'s what Knight is. He\'s a hitter.
