Falcons-Saints odds and ends

Brooks was spotted holding a clipboard during a change of possession, just before a forced punt in the 2nd half.

Jason Craft continues to be the favorite patsy. His INT in the 2nd quarter came because he was out of position on his assignment and the tip went right to him. Nickle coverage had huge gaps all night.

5 down linemen could barely contain the Falcon running game. When two players had escape angles cut off for Vick, both took the direct approach rather than take a coordinated tackling trajectory. There was too much "contain" rather than attack on designed scrambles. How hard is it to force a guy inside to where the help is?

Screen Pass? Certainly a foreign concept. Damn Al Qaeda.

The offensive line had major problems and they weren't caused by being overmatched. Poor technique, poor footwork and simple loss of focus on a number of key plays caused Brooks problems.

The running game was abandoned early in the second half. Of note, 3rd and 2 early in the 3rd and an empty backfield pass play. (Instead of scrambling for the easy 1st, Brooks hit a wide open D'Angelo Hall who returned it for a TD which was called back for a dumb late hit)

3 of 14 in 3rd down conversions and 1-1 on 4th. 2 of the 3 thirds plus the fourth down conversion occurred on the final drive that ran out the clock. When it mattered, the Saints went 1-12.

The defense successfully forced 9 of 11 punts on third.

Another 1st quarter short field turnover resulting in a quick deficit.

When Aaron Stecker returns kickoffs, he looks like he's trying not to make a noise as he sneaks into his parents bedroom to steal a Playboy.

18 of 27 completions went to the safety valve. Only 1 pass thrown over 20 yards and no pass completion went for more than 17. Speed kills, especially when you don't use it. The NFL's too fast for that kind of gameplan.

Speaking of gameplan, Brooks appeared in his read executions not to be trying to lose as opposed to win. High completion % but low efficiency. Was this the coaches' instruction?
