turbo_dog 12-14-2005 09:42 PM

It's been a while since I've been here, but this news was too much. I had to come see the opinions that matter. Where's WhoDat? I guess from what I've read that ol' GumboBC has stirred up more trouble since the last time I visited.

Looks like we are going to have a very interesting offseason!! I can't wait.

:givemebeer:

With the recent Brooks news , it is feared Saintfan and Billy are under suicide watch somewhere .....

tiggerpolice 12-14-2005 10:45 PM

i hope they try to draft that qb from usc......bye brooks

pakowitz 12-14-2005 10:52 PM

hell... ill take the 2nd string qb from the movie "the longest yard"

xan 12-14-2005 11:14 PM

I'm saddened to think that the misfortune of Aaron Brooks has brought so much joy to so many. A true shame that you people are callous, reprehensible and ignorant.

AB, it is what it is.

WOOO HOOO

BrooksMustGo 12-14-2005 11:25 PM

Just a few thoughts in no particular order.

1. Benching Brooks (gosh it feels GREAT to type that) :cool3: does us zero good if we don't get a chance to see what McPherson can do. We know what Bouman has, he's no more the answer than Brooks is.

2. This may be a Billy slanted conspiracy worthy of 08, but I can only see 2 reasons that Jim "as long as I'm in New Orleans I want AB as my QB" Haslett would bench him.

2a. The same Tom Benson who fired his dear friend Fielkow for not parroting the party line in the press doesn't like hearing his highly paid QB saying bad things about Saints ownership in the press. I wouldn't be shocked to hear that Benson wants Brooks head on a pike after his interview the other day.

2b. Saints management doesn't want to see Brooks tear an ACL in the last 3 worthless games and kill what trade value he might have. I'm cautiously optimistic about this motivation. The only thing better than getting rid of AB is getting rid of AB to a team that will spend the rest of his career in the cellar.

3. I'm really not sure about Leinart. He might turn out to be the next Joe freaking Montana, but I have a bad gut feeling about him. It seems FAR more likely that he's the next Ken Dorsey. I don't like the idea of using a top 3 pick and paying top 3 money for the guy. I'd be a lot happier with either Reggie Bush, a franchise Left Tackle (Ferguson or Scott maybe) or AJ Hawk.

4. I'd be game to try and draft a LT and MLB and then swing a 3rd to grab the Cutler kid from Vanderbilt. If McPherson isn't the future, we're pretty much looking at a rebuild all over the team. I'm looking forward to the rebuild though.

5. If we're just going to sit Brooks, why not try to deal him RIGHT NOW? The Jets or Raiders might be open to trying to work something out...

6. Uh, maybe I've been away too long.... What's the story with the improbably built "woman" with the headless avatar?

7. It's time for JKool to weigh in on this.

8. If the situation about free agents this off season is going to be as bad as some are predicting--we need to get 3 starters out of this draft. If McPherson can't do it, we'll have to get a QB. I'd really like to get a LT and MLB. We need to draft really wisely and try to manage 3 starters out the group.

I have had the urge to toss a few out there ....

I have an addition to your reasons for Brooks benched .

Certainly at some point , Hasbeens iron will to stay with Brooks and pamper Brooks , just does not look good to other team owners .These coaches are brought in to win games and not to coddle potential filled quarterbacks .So we get Bouman next week and Saintsfans know this is the one quarterback who can make Brooks look great .Will we get Amac ???

Most likely week 17 in San Antonio , Look for a build up to it and the announcement before week 17 . Shortly after the game , I look for Hasbeens resignation .

Leinart might be great or the next Tim Couch. If we get a top 5 pick could we not trade down, pick up Hawk and then work something out to get Philip Rivers. yes he has been riding the bench but so did a QB with the last name Young. Is all the trade value for Howard gone? Or could we get like a 3 or 4th round pick for him? The Bears got Orton in the 4th round and he does what he's supposed to (not screwing up).

Hard to attract free agents? I bet it will be but then agian, I rather see the saints pick 15 guys right of the street that really would sacrifice themselves for this team than to pick up 2-3 overpaid FAs with a bad attitude.

4saintspirit 12-15-2005 07:37 AM

But they are going to start Bouman. If we want to see what we have for the future -- lets start AMAC

BlackandBlue 12-15-2005 07:43 AM

A woman drops by, and people start coming out of the woodwork.

Turbo_dog, BMG, tiger, and pak- good to see you boys! :)

jrmllb 12-15-2005 08:23 AM

Regarding A-mac, I think the AFL changed him...the scouting reports really emphasized that he was not the same person that made some really poor decisions in college...Everyone has made stupid decisions at that age and most of us a thankful that we are still alive to talk about it...I wanna see the kid play too, but he is still listed as 3rd qb...Does anyone know how he has done in practice this year? Maybe they don't like the kid as much as they used to....I see AB and Stecker or Craft in a trade to San Diego or maybe one of our plethora of tight ends

mjf150 12-15-2005 08:31 AM

Is it possible that if Farve is shown the door in Green Bay, as is rumored, could he end up "in" New Orleans, close to his home, for his final one or two seasons?

Rsanders24 12-15-2005 08:44 AM

That would be nice but, I doubt that Farve would want to be part of a rebuiling process of another team. Just having him around if we drafted another QB (and A Mac) would probably help them become leaders (I bet AB wishes he would have been around Farve while he had the chance instead of trying to make shapes out of the clouds while at practice.) Maybe Farve will feel sorry for us and the gulf coast fans and sign cheap because that's the only way Benson will sign him.

jrmllb 12-15-2005 08:48 AM

No, not gonna happen...The right NEW coach might be able to get him to come as a qb's coach

Little thing called the trade deadline. Passed in October. Can't trade him til Feb.

Matt Leinart is the real deal. Smart, accurate, and mobile enough to avoid a rush, and makes good decisions. We will regret not taking him like so many other regrets if we pass. Unless we go after Rivers. I'd be fine with that too.

WOW. That's an amazing statement.

A guy making several million dollars a year has to hold a clipboard for 3 hours on Sunday and you act like we're cheering for his children to get sick.

Misfortune of AB? I don't get paid to watch this crap every Sunday...I'm paying DirecTV and I don't even make six figures. So spare me the sob story. If you fail at your job every other time you come to work, I doubt your boss would give you 3 years to work it out. This needs to happen. I don't wish AB bad....I hope he has a happy life and I wish him all the best. But, I can't bear to watch him run my team any more....so this news makes me happy :)

saintswhodi 12-15-2005 10:13 AM

yas, I don't think xan has ever been an AB supporter, and I think the woo hoo at the bottom means he is happy AB is leaving. I think he was doing a tongue in cheek type thing, although you can never be sure.

Oooops on the trade deadline. I'm letting my enthusiasm run away with me. I have a lingering fear that Haslett will use 3 more losses with Bouman to trot out an end of the season, "AB gives us the best chance to win and we're going to keep him no matter what" kind of press conference.

Leinart's too expensive for what he is. I do think he could come out and be an OK pro, but I just don't see much in the way of upside. I don't think he's the best guy coming out this season. I'd rather not have the QB equivalent of Sullivan with that high pick.

saintswhodi 12-15-2005 10:43 AM

Like I ahve told many others, we will have to do a wait and see on Leinart. But if we don't draft him and we have the chance, it will be another in a long line of regrets for this team.
