BROOKS IS BENCHED



A league source tells us that the Saints have decided to bench quarterback Aaron Brooks.



Todd Bouman will start in his place on Sunday against the Panthers.



We're told that it was a coaching decision only, and that the move has nothing to do with Brooks' recent criticism of owner Tom Benson.



Brooks got the job in 2000, after then-starter Jeff Blake broke a leg. Brooks led the team to a division title, and the first playoff win in franchise history.



Brooks then won an open competition with Blake for the position in 2001. The cousin of Michael Vick landed a fat contract after an unexpected holdout in 2002, but his play hardly has merited big-time pay.



With $6.25 million in base salary for 2006, Brooks undoubtedly is done as the quarterback in New Orleans.

I've seen Bouman. He's done nothing so far in New Orleans to impress me. I hope that we'll see the Minnesota version of Bouman.When he was in Minnesota doing mop-up or replacing an injured starter he did impress me. He's got a big arm so I hope that they'll send the receivers down the field more.

I'd rather see the kid. I want to see him on the field and judge for myself what kind of player he is. He has a bad record for decision making outside of football so I'm a little skeptical.

God, I hope this is true.

I feel kinda like a boxer, though. If I let down my guard (and accept that it will really happen), I'll suddenly find myself on my back and get my teeth handed to me in a little baggie. Still, its the first glimmer of hope in a long season... so my gloves are opening....

Apparently they also mentioned it on ESPN radio. But that may also be, along with KFFL, that they read it here, and we read it from PFT.com, so I wonder where it started? Believe me, that's happened before.

Baby steps. To me, this at least signifies that they realize that there is a problem at the QB position. Since the very first time that AB stepped foot on the field until now they have refused to acknowledge that. To me, the team will be benefiting from this acknowledgement. Nothing will happen overnight, however, which is why a lot of people are upset that they have waited this long to turn the corner and look in a different direction.

So happy that he's benched.

But damn, throw a rook in or somethin. No way do I want to even enter training camp with someone (anyone) trying to win the job from Todd friggin Bouman.
