this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I've seen quite a few mock drafts that have the Saints picking a TE and a DB in the 1st round. What if the Saints DON'T draft a DT in the 1st? Will that suprise you? If not, what do ...

It won\'t surprise me. I think that since the DT position is so deep this year, there may be guys still hanging around in the third round that normally might have been taken in the early second. Just think, Bentley was our 2nd rounder last year. I think Craver was our third. If we can get a DT in the 2nd or 3rd with that kind of talent we\'ll be OK.
Also, there are still some good DTs available in free agency. My favorite is Chester McGlockton, but I don\'t know if he\'d be willing to take the low-ball figure that the Saints would inevitably throw at him. I\'ll be amazed if Hand is here next season with the same contract he has right now. I think he\'ll be cut or forced to restructure. With him gone you\'re looking at Jackson and Chase. Not good, but if the Saints can significantly improve at S, CB, and LB then it shouldn\'t matter too much. If our LBs play better and we have a scheme that actually allows them to use their speed on the outside in the pass rush then I think they should be able to do enough to survive another season until they look to make a big upgrad via free agency or the draft. |

IMO if the Saints get Tebucky Jones, then they will concentrate on possibly a LB and TE with their first rounders. If Boss Bailey is still on the board at that time, I wouldn\'t be surprised at all to see the Saints snag him up. I believe Jason Witten will be taken with the other pick by the Saints. Then if Doss, Mathis, or Polamau are still on the board in the second round, they\'ll pick up one of them. I think we are \"decent\" at the corner positions as long as we can beef up the safety spots and the defensive tackles. I may be totally off base with my thinking, but I believe they are taking \"small\" steps in the right direction.

I agree... I\'d prefer to see a CB, LB, and DT. Conwell could be a nice addition at TE. I think a TE is a need, but it ranks behind CB, LB, S, and DT to me. I don\'t know if Haz sees it that way, but...
