The Downside of the Texas Win
I believe that a great deal of LSU fans have overlooked an important fact, while pulling for a Texas upset in the National Championship. A Texas win actually hurts LSU more than an USC win, because LSU recruits so heavily in nearby Texas. Now that Texas has its own crystal trophy, and a newer one at that, recuiting top players in this region is going to be much more difficult than it has been in the past, and that includes top players in our own state. When push comes to shove, over the coarse of the next few years, more players, especially in this region, are more likely to choose Texas over LSU.

RE: The Downside of the Texas Win
..same could've been said of LSU drawing players away from Texas 2 years ago... didn't affect Texas at all, it seems...
..besides, once Vince Young declares for the NFL draft, Texas is not going to look so sweet anymore... |

RE: The Downside of the Texas Win
Actually, 2 years ago all of the players that helped Texas to win this championship were already recruited and signed by the time LSU had won their national championship.

In any year, Texas could put MAX 30 players on scholarship, but realistically, that number would be 23. I seriously doubt that those 23 would damagae LSU since the majority would go to Texas anyway under normal circumstances.

It's not the NFL... College kids leave after their senior year. Not because a school wins the national title it immediately makes it a magnet for H.S. players. Again, if Vince Young leaves, that immediately drops Texas below the top 10, maybe even the top 15. If Vince Young Stays, any H.S. kid should be able to figure out that next year is his last year, which means that when they get to be sophmores and actually play, they are automatically out of the top 10-20. |
