Bowling Green quarterback Omar Jacobs will forgo his senior season and enter the 2006 NFL Draft. Jacobs leaves Bowling Green as the school's all-time leader in touchdown passes (71) and ranks third in career passing yards (6,938).

"It was a decision that was certainly not easy and a decision that I hope the people who have supported me throughout my career can understand and respect," said Jacobs.

Jacobs received a fourth-round grade from the NFL's draft advisory committee, and believes his athletic ability will be on display at the NFL scouting combine and will help his stock rise.

"Omar believes there is a need for quarterbacks in this draft," Jacobs' mother, Barbara Bean told ESPN's Joe Schad.

"We respect Omar's decision and we support him," Bowling Green head coach Gregg Brandon said. "Any coach would love to have an Omar Jacobs for another year, but we know his desire is to play professionally. We really appreciate his efforts in helping us re-establish a winning tradition at BGSU. He's a great kid who can realize a dream and he wants to devote all of his energies towards making that a reality."

RE: in case you didn

I have watched this guy play a few times in the last couple of years. He is the real deal. On top of those great stats he is 6'4" 224. He was injured for a portion of this season or his stats would be even better. He threw for 4,000 yds and 41 TDs last year. WOW

RE: in case you didn

yeah he is more likely the best qb in the draft. not vince or matt

RE: in case you didn

I dont know if I would go that far. But I do see him as being similar to Leftwich.

Would be a steal in the second round. I'm definitely high on Jacobs.

RE: in case you didn

haven't been high on matt at all and vince impresses me greatly as an athlete but not as a qb. if we get vince or matt well i am their biggest fan

I am agree huge steal in 2nd round

I don't know about Jacobs being a second round steal. His throwing motion is almost as awkward as Vince's delivery. We'll have to see how he performs in workouts. He is mobile, but not nearly as mobile as Vince. He also hasn't played against top notch competition like the other elite QB's. I'll guess he gets drafted late 2nd to mid 3rd.

I agree with ya and that's why I guessed that we would take him with our second round pick. Check out my Mock Draft in the First and Gold column. I think he will still be there and I really think we need to take Hawk and trade down a few spots to pick up more selections. I still think we will trade AB for Collins and a 3rd round pick from Oakland. Jacobs and AMAC can fight it out for number 2 for a couple of years while Collins can at least provide some experience and stability.

Let the competition begin.

cherm after the nd game i am loving that hawk kid.

saintswhodi 01-06-2006 06:16 PM

spkb25 01-06-2006 06:20 PM

spkb25 01-06-2006 06:21 PM

I don't think you ever saw me saying he was a great QB. I believe I said he was a good QB, and I liked him, but what does that have to do with choosing between a franchise QB, and Omar Jacaobs? That's no choice at all. We didn't have a chance at Leinart before, now we do.

TheDeuce 01-06-2006 06:30 PM

I watched the MAC Championship game a few years ago, and it was Ben Rothlisberger's MIami of Ohio versus Omar Jacob's Bowling Green. Jacobs was unstoppable, but I don't know if he'd be able to put up that kind of play against top-notch competition.

Omar Jacobs at Bowling Green spk. Phenomenal QB. Heisman candidate, except playing for Bowling Green will prob hurt him.

you are right whodi sorry you said phenomenal

CheramieIII 01-06-2006 06:47 PM

Damn, the smackdown is on. Everyone please remember unless BnB deletes your shiiiiiiitttttt it's always there for everyone to see.

GREAT FIND 25.

I have to admit that Whodi didn't say we should draft him, but he did know that we had AMAC already.
