It is all about Attitude, and who his agent is. I bet Drew Rosenhaus is all over this kid. He has T.O. type attitude and an even bigger name now. If he becomes more humble and gets a fair agent then take a chance. I personally do not like him because I have seen him throw more dead ducks against the ducks(Metaphor for bad defense......just in case you didn't get it) than I have seen him throw tight spirals.

Hey Ghandi, I don't think it will happen and it looks like our opinions differ. I say Hawk, you say Leinhart. I don't think Leinhart is going to be the QB everyone thinks he will. Remember it's just college, oh I forgot someone else said that when talking about Young, so I guess it applies to Mr. "I can't win the big game so I'm going to blame it on my defense".

Hey, I like A.J. HAwk too. He'll be an NFL stud. However, there will be some stud LB's in the 2nd round like Bobby Carpenter or Abdul Hodge. There will not be another polished franchise QB like Leinart in the 2nd round. We have to address all of our needs in this year's draft (unlike previous years). And yes, it is just college, but hey he's got the double chin thing going for him. That's a sign!!!!

Forgetting the franchise QB we have given away for AB are we. Besides mel is bad at evaluating QB's. Look at brady and other starters in the nfl.

Cher, I usually agree with what you say, but I am at an absolute loss for words on this one.

Quote:

and what are you going to do if Leinhart like some speculate say's he doesn't want to play for us just like Eli did? You are going to trade him away right? You bet!
First of all, he'll probably play anywhere, but if he didn't yes, I would trade the pick away. But what does that have to do with anything? If he wants to play here, then I want him because he's the best QB in the draft. If he doesn't want to play here, well that really sucks, and I wouldn't want a guy on the team who didn't want to be a Saint, especially at the quarterback position.

Quote:

Where you keep holding out hope that a player is the savior of the team, like Hasbeen did with AB. Have you been paying attention, or like Hasbeen did with Cie Crant or Bouman or many other players.

Who the hell thought that Cie Grant or Bouman were saviors?
Exactly. He might have thought Grant would be pretty good, but Bouman? He's a permanent backup, and a bad one at that. Neither of them were expected to be "saviors."

Listen Cher, the point is, our biggest need is a QB. Our ability to draw QBs in through FA has been drastically reduced, not to mention there aren't many good QBs available, not even enough good ones to be starters for every team (i.e. Miami, Cleveland, Oakland). Getting a guy like Leinart who has won 1 (or 2 if you wish) national championships, won 34 straight games, has great poise, great intangibles, and a desire to win is huge for this franchise. Do we need a LB? Absolutely. I love AJ Hawk. Would I be mad if we traded down and got him? Probably, but only because we would let Leinart go. Hawk is a stud, but there are also a lot of good LBs in this draft, including D'Qwell Jackson ( ILB, Maryland), Abdul Hodge (ILB, Iowa), DeMeco Ryans (OLB, Alabama), Chad Greenway (OLB, Iowa), Bobby Carpenter, Cameron Vaughn, Rocky McIntosh, and some others. The point is, Leinart is a once in a very long time kind of quarterback, at a position where really good ones don't come around very often. There are always at least 3 or 4 LBs that come out every year that do well. The point is, AJ Hawk is a stud, but the Saints need a QB even more, and can still afford to use their 2nd round pick and get a VERY talented LB.

The Leinart thing could work, but only if the team does it right. However this FO hasn't proven in the past that they have a clue as to what to do with QBs. They need to bring in a NFL vet that he can sit behind like a Jon Kitna(who doesn't suck and who was doing great before he was benched for Carson Palmer). In all likelyhood he will hold out until training camp and get a late start(as most high draft picks do). Last thing he needs is to get pounded twice a year by Carolina and Tampa Bay before he learns an NFL offense.

Those are the easy calls. manning boys. My point is for you to look at the late round picks that are great QB that he blew completly. Then you look at the ones in the upper two rounds and he has blown more often than not. Sure QB's 1 and 2 this year are by all means going to be good but there value to us for adding depth across the board by trading down for our teams is too great to pass up.

Hey Hagan, I agree with you. The percentage of QB's that have been great QB's in the history of the NFL far outweigh the number of QB's drafted in the first round and that's because they were good in college not in the NFL. It's a crap shot and we all know it. Whatever happens we all have an opinion and that's why we have this board. We're Saints fans because we like punishment and disappointment. Maybe that will change in the future.

They may need to change the mascot from Saints to the Sadists. What sucks is that I'm a Cubs fan, too. Talk about a double whammy.

Sure it's a crapshoot, and Mel has missed his fair share of QBs. But when it comes to QBs who are this highly rated coming out of college, I'm sure he hasn't been wrong on too many (maybe Ryan Leaf). Leinart seems to be a pretty sure pick.

pakowitz 01-08-2006 05:12 PM

you guys keep talkin about late round qbs... but let me tell you... i guarentee that there are more 1st round qbs who succeed then there are late round qbs... the only reason its a big deal is b/c the 1st rounders are more hyped up and dont live up the the expectations and the late round guys are unheard of and yet succeed....

sarge06 01-08-2006 05:22 PM

exactly. For every Tom Brady or Marc Bulger there are a million JT Osulilivans or Jim Drukenmillers

CheramieIII 01-08-2006 05:25 PM

I would not mind having JT back or Delhomme. I do not want to make this a Delhomme thread.

sarge06 01-08-2006 05:48 PM

JT was garbage. His report read like this. Good accuracy with a popgun arm.

I with you on Jake lets not bring that up.

CheramieIII 01-08-2006 06:02 PM

i'm very sure this is a very old mel kiper statement, sometime in the nov-december 2005 range. cause in no way can i see mel making that statement now, i would be more than willing to bet you he retakes those comments now.

i'm not gonna say he will be a bust totally in the nfl(leinart) even though i believe he will. but he hasn't shown at any point where he can make others around him rise to a higher level of play than they normally do. vince has done this his entire time at ut.

you have to take into account who has played around leinart his career at usc, in evaluating him. could he have made the rose bowl with lessor talent? i doubt it.

i am laughing my ass off as i watch each of the games this weekend and all were won on defensive side of the ball. Here we sit yelling for a qb. A smart qb goes futher than all the talent in the world. if we pick "gup u you know who" i do not think he will survive. another case of a wasted career ie Archie . he will be killed. go with young then at least he can run for his life! neither will have the talent the had in college to bail them out for at least 3 years by coming here. Mickey gutted the ol by 2002 and we are still trying to rebuild it.

First of all, don't talk to me about lesser talent. UT has had top 3 recruiting classes for the last five years, but they just haven't been able to do anything about it. If you're going to say something totally ridiculous like that, you mine as well have some evidence to back it up. Any team who goes to the National Championship wouldn't be able to get there with lesser talent, so what's your point? I don't think you have one except the fact that you just dislike Matt Leinart for some reason, and this is your plan for making him look bad, by making stuff up. That's just like saying that he hasn't helped his teammates get better. How exactly do you prove that? By showing that he led his team to 34 straight wins and 1 national championship? No, you can't prove it, and even if you could try, you'd just prove yourself wrong.

Haha and I love how you say "i'm not going to call Leinart a bust" but then you say he will be. Just say what you mean. If you think he's going to be a bust, then say it. But I think you won't because you know that the kid can play ball.

Surely you're not saying VY is smarter than Leinart. VY might have more athletic ability, but he's one of the dumbest human beings ever to go to college. So if you are talking about Leinart, which I don't think you are, then you just made the point that Leinart's intellect will go farther than VY's talent. Am I wrong?
