..of course not... in the Spring of 1997, Peyton was still in college, all the hyped-up Heisman winning QB's before, and most of the 1st round QB's, let alone the those picked 1-5, have been busts.

The point was, Bill Walsh chose Jim Druckenmiller (big screw up there by the Coach Previously Known as Genius), he chose Jeff Garcia, and I'm not sure who chose Joe Montana and why, since Walsh wasn't the whiner GM back in 79.

In any case, like I said before, I have absolutely nothing against Matt Leinart. He's been a very good college QB, who I think greatly benefitted from being in a great team and the love affair of the media with USC the past 3 years. I just don't think he has the tools to be an NFL QB: he's got a weak arm for the NFL, and not very good mobility... it is very easy for any QB to go through all its progressions when he can stand in the pocket all day untouched, or get a zillion yards passing when teams are bringing 8-9 guys to the line to stop your running game, but when you are getting hit, and your RB is getting stuffed, it is a different story. It's something about a college QB who's never experienced any adversity or any real bad press whatsoever..

..and I don't consider myself a guru or anything... I did think Heath Shuler and Joey Harrington were going to be good ones, so there...

Leinart has obvious talent. You don't get to be USC's starting QB w/o being a stud. I think his best attributes are his intelligence and leadership. He also seems to have mastered the touch pass, something we have coveted for years now. His best pass was that 4th down conversion against ND when he hit Jarrett on a fly route. It was perfect.

The only thing i am worried about with him is his arm. I hate to sound like the rest of the critics, but he does seem to have trouble whipping the ball downfield. As he is right now i don't think he has the arm to fit the ball into the smallest creases that NFL secondaries will allow. Throwing the ball down the field isnt something he had to do at USC. Whenever he did it looked like he had to put his whole body into it. It's just a concern.

He has better arm strength than Vince Young.

Leinart is who i think think the Saints should Draft .....

He would be the best for the saints to draft....

We need a QB more than we need anything else anything else....

So that why saints draft Matt Leinart in the 2006 Draft with the 2nd overall pick....

...well, I don't know about that... other than Carson Palmer, name names :)
...that's the one glaring thing to me... when he throws the ball 20+ yards his body motion is like he's throwing a Hail Mary..

i think there are far more question marks about young than there are about leinhart.

young had 1 good year last year, 1 great year this year, and 1 game in which he looked like a freak of nature against a HORRIBLE defense. willl he be another culpepper type qb (good thing), a vick type qb (a good thing) the best of both worlds (a great thing), another randall cunningham(not a good thing), or another eric crouch/andre ware/atwan randel el(bad thing if we want a franchise qb).

leinhart has had 3 awesome years and has led a team to the national championship game each year. many of you are forgeting that the usc vs texas game really did come down to a few key plays and that leinhart had a great game. the only pick he threw came on a play where his wr gave up on the ball and the db made an amazing play. people are also forgeting that the texas secondary (that leinhart threw for over 300yrds and a td) has 2 players that will be selected on the first day of the draft and 4 that will probably play in the nfl. the texas d line and linebackers were in his face much of the night and he was able to roll out of the pocket to make big plays with his arm.

the 2 main question marks about leinhart is a lack of strength in his arm and being a product of the system. funny thing is those are still two big knocks on both brady and montana. i only hope(kind of doubtfull, but i can dream) that leinhart will have similar success.

u wouldnt want ur qb to be like a guy who threw for almost 30,000 yards in his career?

he had teams with great talent that he never led to a super bowl
he often hurt his team by getting injured on a stupid play and being taken out of a game
was very inconsistant and made some really bonehead plays

sounds a lot like aaron brooks to me
remember, aaron is our all time leading passer

i want a guy with enough mobility to move in the pocket, but enough intelligence and throwing ability to stay in the pocket and pick teams apart. not a guy who runs after his primary reciever is covered (vick, culpepper, young).
