New York Jets – Matt Leinhart, QB, USC *Jets trade their #2 in 2006 and #1 in 2007 to the Saints. 4. New Orleans Saints – A.J. Hawk, OLB, Ohio State 5. Bouman is cut and Volek is our 2nd QB, Jacobs is our 3rd and AMAC goes to Europe for a year. We also resign LeCharles Bentley. I really think this mock is pretty good and fills all of our needs. We will spend alot less on Hawk then we will Leinart or Young at the 2. Damn I would feel good if our draft looked like this one. |
RE: post your mock
If this happened I would actually be happy on draft day. Unusual in the life of a Saints fan.HAHA
|
RE: post your mock
jesus you just made me do something bad in my pants
|
RE: post your mock
Where's everyone else's draft? I see, we all have an opinion only when it requires no work!
:computer2: |
RE: post your mock
That's not a bad draft at all Cher... very nice job. I'm in favor of something like that. Only thing I find a little strange is you have have the Bills selecting another wide receiver...
Eric Moulds, Lee Evans, Roscoe Parrish, Josh Reed... unless you have the Bills releasing Moulds than it would make sense. He does have a very high cap charge. |
RE: post your mock
I think they will cut or trade him.
|
RE: post your mock
moulds you mean cherm. i think so too. they had some bad blood this year
|
RE: post your mock
Yeah Moulds and I think they are looking for another bookend for Evans.
|
RE: post your mock
i agree
|
RE: post your mock
chermi,
that wouldn't be too bad, even though i think it is a huge mistake to pass on a franchise qb when one is needed so badly. volek could be a good temporary filler, but i don't see jacobs being any better than machperson. i will post my mock draft shortly.... |
RE: post your mock
The Saints will not trade any players on draft day. You heard it here first folks.
Reason: Our FO doesn't have that much football sense. Also, I don't think we should, or will, get Volek. He'll be a huge cap hit, and I don't think he has any more room for improvement. But if all youre looking for is a temporary plug at QB, then I guess he'd do. Cher, since you obviously feel that we shouldn't draft a QB, and you just want a fill-in QB, when are you planning on getting a QB for the future? |
RE: post your mock
uhoh jerg listening to whodi. oh jerg you didn't see my post where whodi said that jacobs was an exceptional qb who would be a heiman contender if he didn't play for bowling green
|
1. Houston Texans Reggie Bush, RB, USC, Jr. (duh)
2. New Orleans Saints Matt Leinart, QB, USC (duh jr) 3. Tennessee Titans Vince Young, QB, Texas, Jr. (duh III) 4. New York Jets A.J. Hawk, LB, Ohio St. (vilma and hawk together...SCARY) 5. Green Bay Packers D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT, Virginia (favre or rodgers...the need an OT) 6. Oakland Raiders Mario Williams, DE, North Carolina St. Jr. (sapp is getting old so DT possible, but williams is the top DL) 7. San Francisco 49ers LenDale White, RB, USC, Jr. (need someone to take the pressure off of alex smith...gore and hicks not cutting it...some think might be better pro than bush) 8. Buffalo Bills Chad Greenway, LB, Iowa (spikes needs help...chad is right there with hawk) 9. Detroit Lions Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, Boston College (maybe top pure pass rusher in draft) 10. Arizona Cardinals Jimmy Williams, DB, Virginia Tech (if not jimmy they will takd michael huff, DB, Texas...denny needs some secondary help...both of these guys could be corners or safties) SAINTS 2nd Round 34. New Orleans Saints-Bobby Carpenter, LB, Ohio State (i personally like abdul hodge out of iowa better, but hodge is a mlb and we already have mckinnon...carpenter is a HUGE olb {6'3 255} with great speed) for the rest of the saints draft they should take best available and avoid the trap of reaching for need. the saints d managed to be ranked 14th in the nfl even though the offense kept putting them in bad positions with turnovers (worst turnover ratio in the nfl). |
25,
i have to disagree with whodi there. it hurts me to disagree with whodi, but the truth has to be said. jacobs was simply a big fish in a small pond that will get devoured quickly upon entering the sea of the nfl. in the mac he got away with being so quick and athletic that he put up god-like stats 1 year. see akili smith in the pac-10. |
right but vince young will be good after one good season and one good game. makes sense
|
i'm not a big vince young fan, but he has had 1 good season and 1 great season. i personally think he should have gone back for his senior year and put together another great season.
if vince goes to the titans, where he can learn from mcnair for a year or two, he has the potential to be a top tier qb in 3 or 4 years. whereas leinart can start right now and be slightly better than average and within 2 or 3 years be a top tier qb. i don't think young is ready to start next year and if he does he will be ruined. |

oh brady turns me on cherm

I'll have to disagree jergensl...
Big Ben, Leftwich, and Pennington were all MAC products and they've seem to all have a solid career so far. I think Jacobs is next in line with that bunch. Pac-10 in a pass happy offensive conference has faired much worse. Cade McNown, Akili Smith, Derek Anderson, Joey Harrington, Ryan Leaf, etc... are either out of the league or less than average qbs. Hopefully Leinart will fall into the mold of Carson Palmer rather than the others. If you're good, you're good. That small conference big conference is a bit over rated to me. Omar Jacobs is good period. Next in line for the MAC WAC is going to be Tim Hiller. If we decide to trade down and pass on Leinart, I think Jacobs is the next best choice if we decide to draft a quarterback this year. |
so far big ben and leftwich have been the only ones to prove themselves and all of them are drop back passers. my point on jacobs is that he is such a superior athlete that he gets away with a lot in the MAC where there are not the athletes that there are in the SEC, ACC, or even Big Ten.
i typically do not like one year wonders from any confrence especially not the Pac-10 or Big 12. when was the last time a qb was rated at 98 by mel kiper and turned out to be a bust? i am not being a smart ass i am just really curious if anyone has that information. the draft is such a crap shoot, no matter what you do there is a huge chance of a bust at any position. |
I hardly consider Jacobs as a one year wonder. He had an outstanding season last year and had a good one this year. If it were not for the injury he suffered, he would have played 3 more full games. And if you think about it, he would have easily topped 3000 yards and 30 touchdowns. He still finished the season with 2600 yards and 26 touchdowns. Those are solid numbers considering the fact he missed time.
Let's compare him to Brodie Croyle of Bama... Jacobs has better mobility, a stronger arm, and more than one good year. If Croyle can get away with being no where near athletically gifted as Jacobs in the SEC, I think Jacobs would more than be capable of holding his own. Can you agree with that? As for Mel Kiper... I think he's poop. Last year I can remember him talking the world about Jacobs and Mathias, and this year he doesn't have them anywhere near what he projected them the year before. The same can be said about Ahmad Brooks and a couple of other guys. |

i still say draft leinart with first pick, send AMAC to europe to see what he has, pick up a back up qb in FA to compete with bouman for the 2nd position behind leinart. someone cheap with a lot of experience who can tutor leinart along without expecting to start. too bad testeverde is retiring, because he would be perfect. |
i don't think croyle is worthy of a 2nd round pick. he was not able to get that bama offense going at all this year, i still don't understand why he is so highly rated.
as for jacobs, he has put up great numbers, but i would not want to spend a second round pick on a guy that will probably not be ready to start for 2 or 3 years, if that. his numbers come from his athletic ability that looked freakish in the MAC, but will look slightly better than ordinary in the NFL. there are not that many LBs or safeties in the MAC that have 4.4 speed. the NFL is a MUCH different story. |

oh sorry chermy i mis read your post. my bad. i admit when i am wrong.
bouman was a turd the last few games, but since he is already under contract and we have a tight cap situation, we should keep him around as a #3. |
It's cool jergensl!

my mock

Ravens-LenDale White Eagles- Santonio Holmes, Wr, Ohio St. Falcons-Chad Greenway, OLB, Iowa 2nd rd Saints- Kyle Williams, DT, LSU 3rd rd- (from Jets)- DJ Shockley, QB, Georgia (from Raiders)*- Sinorice Moss, WR, Miami *AB to the Raiders for their 3rd rounder this year and a 2nd rouder next year. ok, you are now free to bash my mock draft |
RE: my mock
if we move down to the 4th pick... we better be gettin more then a 3rd rounder....
|
RE: my mock
based on a draft pick value chart... our pick 2nd overall is worth 2600 pts... the jets pick is worth 1800 pts... thats n 800 pts difference... now im not sure which pick the jets have in the 3rd round but even if it was the 1st pick in the 3rd round it would still only be worth 265 pts... so we would be taking a loss of over 500 pts... which is a big discrepency....most likely a move down with the jets would involve their #1 next year...which if i remember correctly 1st round picks for next year would be worth justa bout 800 pts... so it would be perfectly even...

RE: my mock
pak that would be awesome. and good post to man. hey where can i get a look at one of those charts. i remember them talking about them on draft day.

|

New Orleans Saints - D'Qwell Jackson, ILB, Maryland |
RE: my mock
If we don't trade down, that's exactly how I want our first two picks to go.
|
RE: my mock
i would rather see the saints take an outside linebacker. mckinnon looked solid in the mlb spot for us this year, but hey i am just being picky.
|
RE: my mock
I LOVE MCKINNON, but the guy is just too slow to be a starter in this league. The can brings a huge hitting stick, and he plays with all of the emotion you could ever ask from a guy, but he just can't do anything in coverage. I watched several games where the other teams threw screens or short drags across the middle of the field, and McKinnon just couldn't catch the guy.
|
RE: my mock
Basically, he just said that McKinnon is a better version of Orlando Ruff. :P Now if we can find a combo of McKinnon and Darrin Smith in one, we'll have ourselves a pretty darn good middle linebacker.
