this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I had a dream last night that Mike Sherman will be given the job this week, but I prefer Maurice Cathron. Who knows what looms in Loomis' head....

RE: Who will it be?
I believe that the best head coach available, by far, is Mike Sherman for the reason I previously posted under the "Mike Sherman" post:
I think saying that he was "riding the coatails of Holgram" is stretching it a little. If the team would have fallen off within a year or two after Holgrams departure, then I can see it, but when the team continues to win for 5 years afterward, you can not call that "riding on the coatails". Sherman went 57-39 and won three division titles in six seasons. That record is including the 4-12 that they posted this season when many of their starters, including Walker, Green, and Davenport, were placed on IR. To criticize him for not going to the Super Bowl is a little harsh considering that in the same six seasons there were a total of only 6 different coaches to even make an appearance there. In addition he had posted a winning record in all five previous seasons, and made four straight playoff appearances. I believe of all the coaches who were fired this past season, Sherman was the least deserving, by far. |

Who do you want as Saints HC?
I posted a poll on my site, but I think St. Louis Goats fans are trolling & skewing the numbers because Martz is in front right now.
Take a look & vote....& any comments will be most welcome! Thanks, Gang! http://www.saintsconclave.com/who-would-you-want |

RE: Who do you want as Saints HC?
From Len Pasquarelli of ESPN.com:
Heard in the press box (in Indy) Cincinnati may make an effort to re-sign Jon Kitna, but there are plenty of people in the organization who feel the Bengals can upgrade, and really don't much care if the veteran quarterback departs as an unrestricted free agent in the spring. ... If the St. Louis Rams hire Miami offensive coordinator Scott Linehan as head coach, they will aggressively pursue Tampa Bay defensive line coach Rod Marinelli to be his defensive coordinator. That's assuming that Marinelli, who will interview Monday with Oakland officials about the vacancy created by the dismissal of Norv Turner, doesn't land a head coach job. ... Turner might be a candidate to fill the offensive coordinator vacancy created in San Francisco when Mike McCarthy landed the Green Bay head coach position. ... New Orleans officials were very impressed with Mike Sherman last week and the former Green Bay coach has quietly emerged as the leading candidate to fill the Saints' opening. ... Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio, who has two seasons remaining on his current deal at a total of about $3 million, might get a contract extension. But if he does, it likely will include a lot of incentives based on team performance. ... The Atlanta Falcons may try to trade former first-round tailback T.J. Duckett in the offseason. ... Two current college coaches, Pat Hill of Fresno State and Louisville's Bobby Petrino, could be factors in the Oakland head coach search. ... First-year Vikings coach Brad Childress concedes that quarterback Daunte Culpepper might not be fully rehabilitated from his catastrophic knee injury in time for the start of the '06 season. |

I voted sherman, I just don't feel there is much qualification in the others. I know I don't want to see Martz who is well known for all offense and no defense. I"m sick and tired of seeing the Saints as bottom dwellars after those dome patrol years. I sure hope whoever comes in adds an x over that last window in Dbl's bus.

i think the defense this year stepped up. considering the horrible positions the offense put them in and the horrible def coordinator.

Saints | Sherman the leading candidate?
Mon, 16 Jan 2006 08:38:15 -0800 ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports there was talk in the press box of this weekend's playoff games that New Orleans Saints officials were very impressed with Mike Sherman last week and the former Green Bay Packers head coach has quietly emerged as the leading candidate to fill the Saints' opening at head coach. |
