Apparently it is official - Payton

RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
Well, hopefully they made the right decision. No use in bi***ing now. One positive to look at tho, he specializes in QBs, and could form a very strong and useful bond with Leinart.

With whomever our QB is
|
RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
Well, I guess it's done. I hope that Fox, Gruden, and Parcells have rubbed off on him. My biggest fear is that, as a QB coach, he will think that he can "fix" Aaron Brooks, rather than cut him.

RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
I hope he picks us a good DC... our offense should be more consistent with him coaching.

Saints | Payton to be named new head coach
Tue, 17 Jan 2006 14:41:14 -0800 Jimmy Smith and Mike Triplett, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, report the New Orleans Saints will hire Sean Payton, formerly an assistant coach with the Dallas Cowboys, as their head coach. He will become the 14th different head coach in the team's history. The two sides negotiated a multi-year contract Tuesday, Jan. 17, and he is expected to be announced as the team's new head coach sometime Wednesday, Jan. 18. Payton has eight years of NFL experience as an assistant coach, where he has worked with the Cowboys, New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles. http://www.kffl.com/hotw/ I guess it could have been alot worse. I assume he came cheap and someone that Loomis and Benson can control. Like I said it could have been alot worse. My only hope is that he doesn't think he can fix AB! |
RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
just saw that in my email cherm

RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
Can anybody tell me what Mr. Payton has done to merit a head coaching position?
|
RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
Hang on and I will try to find something...................................
.................................................................................................. ................................................................................................. ................................................................................................... ..........................................Oh, NOTHING!!! He was cheap, available and will listen to instructions very well! |
RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
That's exactly what I was thinking.

RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
We'll have to give him a chance, not much else to do at this point, I think Benson made the right choice, this guy may surprise the hell out of us, wouldn't that be nice, my heart was set on Sherman but I am happy with Payton, one thing is for sure, he has a lot of work ahead of himself, " I pitty the fool".
I don't see him winning a ton of games in his first season but expect him to make the Saints a winning team in 2-3 years which is about how long it will take for a young QB entering the league to get comfortable, Payton is coming in at the right time, he knows QB's, as for the young QB ( did I say young) QB, how lucky he will be to have a young coach to help him develope the system, in fact the entire team will all learn Payton's new system along their new QB |
RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
One of two ways u can respond to this news. You can either get behind the team or @#$! and moan about not getting the guy you wanted. I personally don't see the good in wondering why he got a chance at a coaching job. Brad Childress got hired by the Vikings. Freakin Eric Mangini who's barely older than Joe Horn got hired by the Jets. Yet people are saying that Payton isn't that qualified. He's at least as qualified as those two guys. We definitely could have done worse, people.

Anyone remember that Andy Reid was a QB coach at Green Bay before getting the job in Philly? And if that's the template, then it stands to follow that we draft a QB in the first round. (Anyone remember McNabb being taken before Ricky?) :ohno: Dare we dream? |
RE: Re: RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
Saw in the article posted on the front page where Payton is in the same mold as Gruden and Fox....God, I hope they're right. If not, we're in for another 6 years of Haslett-esque football.

I have a hard time believing that Benson can make a right choice, especially when it comes to good football decisions. Now financial decisions, that's his specialty, which is why he hired Payton, because he was cheaper than a proven winner and would not interfer in Benson's football decisions. All that we can hope is that he turns out to be better than what Benson bargained for. |
RE: Re: RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
I told you to take the pic of my gf out of your sig, D.
Payton reminds me of Jack Del Rio. Somewhat sought after by multiple teams, considered a bright football mind, and, and offensive minded coach. Carthon was my choice, only because I didn't think there was a chance in hell that Payton would land here. Considering some of the other alternatives, I'm did backflips all the way to work. |
RE: Re: RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
With little I know about Sean the players better be ready to play their best football because he doesn't seem to be a coach that will put up with the dumb mistakes, I bet he will demand 100% play from each of his players.
Headed to work this morning I was listening to ESPN Radio 1429 am, Stevie P (great show Stevie) said he thought Horn would not be a Saint next season, I told a few of my friends the same thing a few weeks back, has anyone heard if Horn would be around next year with the Saints? |
RE: Re: RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
No, but Horn needs to shut the hell up and catch the ball. That's what he gets paid for isn't it. I hope Payton tells the players that exact thing.
|
RE: Re: RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
I'm thinking Horn will not be a favorite of Payton's. I am all for getting rid of him. He should have never been signed to a long term deal.
|
RE: Re: RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
You noticed he went TO as soon as he got the contract. Stopped catching the ball and started opening his big mouth.
|
RE: Re: RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
Payton is accustomed to dealing with big mouth players. Hello Me-shawn......

RE: Re: RE: Apparently it is official - Payton
QUOTE TO NOTE: "There's nothing magical to winning in this league. It's difficult, and it's not a secret. It's the same with every winning team right now - preparation and attention to detail. We'll look for tough, disciplined, smart football players. Those are players you win football games with." - Saints coach Sean Payton on his philosophy for turning around a 3-13 team.
