the ideal situation

with the #2 pick the saints trade with the oakland raiders. raiders are on the clock. saints get oaklands 1st round pick 7th overall, 2nd round pick, 4th round pick in the 2006 draft along with a conditional pick in 2007.

with the 7th overall selection, the saints select.

1)Jay Cutler-QB Vanderbilt

2) Claude Wroten- DT LSU

2) obtain from Oakland-Bobby Carpenter-LB Ohio State

2) saints trade the 4th obtain from Oakland, and their 3rd round pick for Thomas Howard LB-UTEP.

the rest of the picks involves offensiveline and special teams.(skyler green in the 3rd with a conditional pick).

RE: the ideal situation

with this scenario, it also needs to be said that brooks takes a paycut to remain with the team and as the starter, bouman is given a greyhound bus pass.

RE: the ideal situation

not even close to being a good deal

pakowitz 01-18-2006 06:03 PM

RE: the ideal situation

NO #2 overall - 2600 pts
oaks #7 overall - 1500 pts
oaks 2nd rnd pick - 510 pts
oak 4th rnd pick - 88 pts

thats about 500 pts short not including your conditional pic... which u never said what rounds would be condtitional or what were the condidtions...........

RE: the ideal situation

i was thinking in the range of a 2nd round pick in 2007.

pakowitz 01-18-2006 06:06 PM

RE: the ideal situation

if i remember correctly 1st round pics are worth 800, 2nd rounders 400... i know ive seen it online before but i cant find it to save my life....

RE: the ideal situation

That is a raw deal for us. Think about it we gave up a 1st, a 3rd, and the next years 1st for the number 5 draft pick when we picked Ricky Williams. We should definitely get more for trading the #2 overall. If we were to trade down I would want AJ Hawk or Ngata at that spot. If you aren't gonna get Leinart in the first you might as well wait until the second to get Jacobs. Hawk or Ngata would be too good to pass up. And I don't think it should be a given that Brooks is the starter if he's brought back. That's been the problem in the first place, he's had the spot handed to him for 5 straight years And since 6.5 mil is too much for someone that might not even be a starter, he should be cut.

because our frontoffice was so stupid to give up what they gave up back then, now you want to hold every trade from that point forward to that standard of stupidity?

the trade i proposed, was very much a good deal and appropriate trading spots in the 1st round giving us the 7th pick overall, their 2nd and 4th in 2006 and their 2nd in 2007.

dude if we trade down to 10th can we get a second and thrid this year and another first next year? would that be nice or am i an idiot. don't hold back guys please.

BrooksMustGo 01-18-2006 08:04 PM

Pak,

Here's the link.

http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/8358748

I'm in favor of a trading down scenario myself, but I'm holding out hope for something like the deal that Ditka made to go up and get Ricky Williams.

spkb25 01-18-2006 08:06 PM

brooks if that happen i would crap my pants and like it

Cutler or Greenway from Iowa. I think Carpenter maybe there for our #34 pick.

RE: the ideal situation

You are correct, Pak. This particular trade scenario would actually be bad, given the value of the picks. They want the pick bad enough, we START talks at their entire draft. ;)

RE: the ideal situation

a move down 5 spots that early in the draft warrents us getting multiple 1sts... ie this n next years at the very least... if it were me.. id ask for their first this year. next year. their 2nd rounder this year n either a 3rd and 4th or a 2nd next year

i think that they would have to think hard about giving up the 2nd next year b/c this is a very deep draft and they wont be making a pick until the 5th round if they gave up the 3rd and 4th this year.....

Hmmm so my trade scenario is actually not enough???? I didn't think it was unreasonable, especially if Bush could possibly be available at that spot.

A 1st, 3rd and 4th this year
A 1st next year and
A 3rd the next year if we could swing that.

RE: Re: RE: the ideal situation

It's the value of the picks, which I would think would be even more hightened, given the players that will be available.

the second overall pick carries a value of 2600
the seventh overall pick is valued at 1500
Oakland's 2nd round pick is valued at 510
Oakland's 3rd round pick is valued at 235
Oakland's 4th round pick is valued at 88
Oakland's 5th round pick is valued at 38.5
Oakland's 6th round pick is valued at 25.6
Oakland's 7th round pick is valued at 12.8
Oakland's total draft value= 2409.9

So, if they trade their entire draft for our first pick, they still owe us about 190.1 points worth of picks, which could easily equate into an additional 2nd round pick in next years draft.

Which translates into....no one is crazy enough to trade their entire draft for the #2 this year because other teams need this draft to build up. If we were able to get a 3rd and a 4th, we would still need at least a first next year or a high profile player. Yet some claim that we should trade at all costs with no regard for getting equal value.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: the ideal situation

If we can't get equal value, I say no trade. I have saddled my horse with Lienart, but if we can garner a ton of picks by trading down, I would not be opposed to that either, as long as it makes sense.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: the ideal situation

i figured out that my trade scenerio would be way over valued for us...
a more likely scenerio would be
our first and our 4th for their first 2nd and first next year...
2708 pts - 2810 pts
or

our first for their 1st and 2nd and 3rd this year, and 2nd next year
2600 pts - 2645 pts pretty close...

I would think that those numbers are just starting points. Shouldn't those numbers be dependent on overall consensus of a player's worth???? If Bush were at #2 this year, wouldn't that be worth more than the average #2 overall pick??? If that is the case, we should be able to ask of more from other teams.

pakowitz 01-19-2006 01:28 PM

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: the ideal situation

i would say yes... but it would depend on the team who wants him and who else wants that player as well and what everyone is offering...the only teams i see in that general area wanting leinert would be Oakland maybe tennessee but i dont see them offering for a trade b/c they will take young just as easily...

I would hope that the player available would play some part as to the value, but usually, I think the figure is somewhere between 75-80% of all NFL teams use this value chart when contemplating trades.

Obviously Bush would command more than any other player in this draft, but I don't think there's too much of a drop-off with Young and Leinart, as there are always teams that are looking for the next great franchise QB.

cutler better have a stellar senior bowl and combine if he wants to be picked that high. or hope that some team is feeling incredibly lucky. cutler may turn out to be good, but right now he does not warrant anything inside the top 20.
