Keeping Aaron Brooks

I'd like to see them keep Brooks for one more season, just in case. Unless they can trade him for a first round pick(impossible it seems) but Baltomore, Miami, Cleveland, Detroit, Arizona they could all sure use him. He's a pretty good quaterback he just lacks intelligence. Payton might be able to do something with him & we draft Leinart or Young whos going to be the back-up Bouman, I'd rather Brooks. :apu:

I'll admit I am an AB fan, when he is on he can be great, but when he is off is he ever off! That being said I am all for drafting Leinart and letting him compete with AB for the starters role. Landing Phillip Rivers lit a fire under Drew Brees, maybe it can do the same for AB!

No way in the world we could ever get a first for AB, even if he were to have a great year. He has an ugly cap number, he's approaching 30 and it would only be one big year.

a first for brooks. dude we be lucky to get a 3rd

I like AB. He is quick...a good scrambler that can buy time....and a good arm. Maybe with a new offensive system he can thrive more than he did under Haslett. I say trade down a few spots and get Hawk.

I don't know that much about cap and $$$. I do know it's an important consideration, though. Not sure who we could get in his place. We certainly would need someone decent with experience. A-Mac remains a possibility but he's still a project.

Seems many of the decent back-ups are valuable to their teams. The Vikings will probably try to hold on to Brad Johnson. The Chargers with Brees and Rivers. The Falcons with Schaub and Vick. Etc...etc.

I'm not all that crazy about Brooks but I'm not opposed to keeping him, if possible. Just curious of all of you in favor of dumping him - who do we sign and how?

As I said yesterday in a similar post, I do not see anything wrong with keeping AB for one more year. He can be a great backup if that is the role for him. Of course he will probable want out the following year but he can be a great asset. I still think drafting a QB in the first round is the way to go. Maybe trading down to get some good 2nd rd pics and pick the QB from Vandy. He is getting rave reviews.

I think every would agree that he would be a great back up. The deal breaker is that he has a 6.5 mil cap figure for next year. That's starter money. We can cut him and get another back up for much less.

That would be assuming our signee would be the starter. Perhaps the rookie would need time to develop. Young, Leinart or another may very well be ready to step right in. But my money's not on it. I dunno.

No you are right. A Leinart or Young definitely would need time to develop. All the same we could find a starter for less than 6.5 mil.
