Assistant Coaches To Keep?

My first vote to keep is John Pease. Promote him To DC if we have to or at least keep him in his current capacity.

And probably Roland as RB coach, he did a pretty good job with the backups this year.

I agree that Roland should stay. I say since Payton is going to call his own plays that we don't need a new offensive coordinator to come in. I say up grade Roland or keep the one we have.

Though I thought Willy Robinson was a horrible pickup coming from the 49ers this past off season, our pass defense this year was much better from years past. I wouldn't mind keeping him another season to see how much more we can improve. I like Sheppard and also would like to see him stay... Pease and Roland aren't bad either.

I agree with you Papz, I think Roland did an exceptional job with what he had.

RE: Assistant Coaches To Keep?

I just haven't seen where ANY of the assistant coaches merit the opportunity to retain their jobs. I think a complete cleansing of the staff is what is needed. I don't care if it is Pease, Roland, "Tubby" Venturi, Mike Sheppard, or Harvey the Rabbit, get rid of 'em all. It's a new coaching era, so let him bring in the new.

While I aggree with you D_IT_UP2,

I heard somewhere where when you come in as a new HC, you aren't always able to hire who you want. So, before we massivly fire the entire staff, lets keep the ones with stelar creditials. Pease and Roland from what I've read fit the bill. Pease worked wonders for us before during the Mora years, and the Defense in Jak was stellar.

Just because the team as a whole did not do well, certain parts did. Will Smith is coming around, and the DL did pretty well even with the benching of Grant due to his poor attitude.

Roland took over and while it's hard to say what Deuce would have done had he not been hurt, I think he did a great job with what he had.

So, we have to make sure there is an upgrade and not just changing for the sake of changing.

I say we keep the RB coach and fire everybody else.....

Don't know if this is exactly what he meant by it, but in Loomis' press conference after firing Haslett, he said that the new head coach would be able to bring in whatever new assistant coaches he wanted because he felt that a head coach should have the people that he wants working around him
