A Few Rumors of Interest
McNair deal close
<Jan. 23> After having preliminary talks regarding a new contract for QB Steve McNair, Titans GM Floyd Reese and agent James "Bus" Cook are expected to meet at this week's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., to go over details.
"We're at a point where I think we know what they want, and they kind of know what we can do," Reese told the Nashville City Paper. "A lot of these guys [agents] will be down here this week. I'm sure we'll see each other. It's just a matter of finding time."
The 32-year-old McNair will be owed a $50 million option bonus in March, which would inflate his cap number to $28.9 million. Even if the Titans exercise a $1 million buyout clause that would prune back the contract from 2009 to 2006, McNair would still have an unmanageable cap number (around $14 million.)
They still gonna take Young/Leinart with the 3rd?
Nalen heading to Houston?
<Jan. 23> The Broncos are losing longtime offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak to the Texans. Will they lose their longtime center as well? Once Kubiak takes over as Houston's head coach, a move that will be made official this week, among his top priorities will be to shore up one of the worst offensive lines in the league. There's a very good chance he'll try to pry Tom Nalen, an unrestricted free agent, away from Denver.
Although Nalen, who's been forced to take pay cuts in recent years, would like to remain with the Broncos, he's leaving his options open. Would he consider following Kubiak to Houston?
"If it gets to March, yes," he said.
Getting a guy like Nalen would definitely improve their OLine. Lessens the probability that they'd trade out of #1 for Brick maybe? Maybe not. But getting Nalen would be huge for the worst OLine in NFL history.
