Kiper Senior Bowl analysis day 2
Here:
MOBILE, Ala. -- The running backs on the South squad shined during the team's Tuesday afternoon practice at the Senior Bowl. Memphis RB DeAngelo Williams was the brightest star in the group. He looked very good. Williams showed great cutback ability, great vision and a terrific burst. He exploded through the defense on three successive runs during the afternoon practice. Lori Young/ESPN.com RB DeAngelo Williams has shown good quickness and vision at the Senior Bowl.LSU RB Joseph Addai caught the ball well and showed some quickness. He's a versatile player and has a chance to have a nice week. RB Jerious Norwood from Mississippi State displayed some natural running instincts and caught the ball. South Florida RB Andre Hall showed he can pass block, which is important at the NFL level. Hall also displayed some running skills. FB Garrett Mills, who played tight end at Tulsa, can catch and get yards after the grab. Mills needs to prove he can block. New Mexico WR Hank Baskett is big and physical, but he still needs to prove that he can separate. Miami DB Kelly Jennings was in Baskett's hip pocket on a couple of routes WR Sinorice Moss showed he has deep speed. Moss can really blow by defenders, but his size could be an issue. UCLA TE Marcedes Lewis has huge hands and long arms. He's an imposing physical presense. He has a ton of pass-catching potential. Lewis had one drop in practice -- he needs to eliminate them this week. QB Darrell Hackney, who checked in at only 5-foot-11 ¼, showed a powerful arm, but he was not accurate in Tuesday's practice. The UAB product needs to be more precise with the football. Georgia OL Max Jean-Gilles has tremendously long arms and a great base. New Mexico offensive lineman Ryan Cook struggled at both center and right tackle during Tuesday's practice. Technically, he needs some work. OL Mike Degory started for four years at Florida, but was beaten some. Questions remain about his athleticism. UTEP LB Thomas Howard is athletic and has good speed. Howard needs to prove to scouts that he can locate the football and take the right angles. Those questions won't be answered until the game. Mark Anderson is a pass rusher and showed those instincts. The Alabama DE needs to show that he can hold up strong at the point of attack. NC State DE Manny Lawson showed that he can get to the quarterback. Tennessee DL Jesse Mahelona got a leverage advantage against Ryan Cook in practice. Mahelona showed great power, strength and intensity. Miami DL Orien Harris was motivated and at the top of his game. Harris was quick off the ball and showed a good rush technique. Greg Blue is a tough, aggressive and intense intimidator, but can he cover? The Georgia safety needs to prove that he can this week. Marcus Hudson worked at corner and safety. The NC State product needs to prove that he can cover well enough to play corner. South players who shined Tuesday RB DeAngelo Williams, Memphis DL Orien Harris, Miami DE Manny Lawson, NC State CB Kelly Jennings, Miami South players who struggled Tuesday OL Mike Degory, Florida QB Darrell Hackney, UAB TE T.J. Williams, NC State WR Hank Baskett, New Mexico North practice notes Michigan WR Jason Avant had some drops today, which is something he can't afford to do. He is a possession guy who doesn't have great speed. Avant did not show any improvement over Monday's practice. Arizona State WR Derek Hagan had some drops, too. He can't afford them either. Maurice Stovall had a couple of drops today, but the Notre Dame receiver still looks like a second-round pick. Oregon WR Demetrius Williams showed great body control and excellent hands. He adjusted well to poorly thrown balls. Speed is still a question. Joe Klopfenstein had a good day. The Colorado TE caught the ball well and showed soft hands. Dominique Byrd also had a decent day of practice. The USC tight end needs to work on his blocking and get stronger in the weight room, but he has a lot of talent. Michael Robinson still needs to work on his accuracy. The Penn State QB overthrew some receivers and was indecisive. Washington State RB Jerome Harrison showed a nice burst during practice and Virginia OL D'Brickashaw Ferguson had another great day. Nebraska safety Daniel Bullocks showed that he has the ability to make plays in the box. He was very physical. Clemson CB Tye Hill continued to impress. Syracuse safety Anthony Smith had another good day. He displayed his athleticism and instinctive style. Boston College CB Will Blackmon had a better day. His cover skills were improved. Boston College DE Mathias Kiwanuka still needs some work on his technique. He was too upright and D'Brickashaw Ferguson got the best of him. Kiwanuka is still a first-round prospect. Oklahoma DL Dusty Dvoracek struggled today. Ohio State center Nick Mangold got the best of Dvoracek in the one-on-one rush drills. Mangold had another great day. He has proved that he is not a finesse player. Mangold is strong and technically sound. He looks like he could move into the first round, but will probably go in the second round. Iowa LB Chad Greenway showed a ton of athleticism at practice and some good smarts. North players who shined Tuesday DB Daniel Bullocks, Nebraska OL D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Virginia LB Chad Greenway, Iowa RB Jerome Harrison, Washington State CB Tye Hill, Clemson LB Abdul Hodge, Iowa LB D'Qwell Jackson, Maryland TE Joe Klopfenstein, Colorado OL Nick Mangold, Ohio State DB David Pittman, Northwestern State DB Anthony Smith, Syracuse FB Lawrence Vickers, Colorado WR Demetrius Williams, Oregon North players who struggled Tuesday WR Jason Avant, Michigan DL Dusty Dvoracek, Oklahoma WR Derek Hagan, Arizona State DL Babatunde Oshowo, Stanford OL Marvin Philip, California QB Michael Robinson, Penn State |

The Dolphins wasted little time doing extensive research on the six quarterbacks at the Senior Bowl practices. By the end of Tuesday, the Dolphins had scheduled at least one interview with five of the six quarterbacks including Jay Cutler of Vanderbilt, Brodie Croyle of Alabama, Georgia's D.J. Shockley, Darrell Hackney of Alabama-Birmingham and Charlie Whitehurst of Clemson.
