sammy was our best defensive player when he was here... i was very sad to see him go and he's been productive since he's left here (like most of our former players)... that being said, he was a liability then, and he'd be an even bigger liability now... we need to go after a young SS to complement d. smith, b/c bullocks doesn't seem to have it... i think we should do like seattle did with boulware and grab an undersized LB and convert him to SS... the williams guy from auburn would be a good candidate or in the later rounds draft scott ware from usc.... the guy was pretty good for them, even though he split time with darnell bing

67 tackles, 1 INT and 5 deflected passes for Bullocks, isn't that pretty good for a rookie saftey? I haven't seen all the games this year but I thought he looked pretty good when I saw him.

chRxis 01-26-2006 09:09 AM

when i say doesn't have it, i mean he gets lost in coverage and looks confused on some downs, especially when he should know what he's doing... you can't count on someone who will lose coverage on a third and long and give up a first down b/c of a blown coverage... bullocks has done this... i know he's only a rookie, but he's played football before and shouldn't be giving up as much ground... the tackles are there, mainly b/c everyone in front of him sucks, but he lacks in the coverage dept.

I credit his mistakes to lack of coaching... you just described the team as a whole.

I dunno...don't get me wrong...I too was rather pissed when we lost Sammy but.....it has been a while. I did get to enjoy him down here in Miami as well but I think Payton should follow the Jimmy Johnson formula and look for nothing but speed in our secondary. Speed, Speed, Speed.

You can't judge a rookie by one year. He has to be given the opportunity to grow and develop. Sammie Knight was a great saint, and will always be remembered as that, but that being said he is not what the team needs. Solid linebackers and another shutdown corner are what would bolster the D!

Bullocks had a good year for the most part. Many Rookie safties get burnt hear and there I'd like to see his brother in the late rounds.

Sammy was great but his last good years are behind him. He dropped off after Miami or there great secondary covered for his drop off from the Saints

I find it amusing that people say Sammy Knight has dropped off, lost a step, etcetera, etcetera. I found something PRETTY AMUSING for doubters of Sammy Knight. He's only 30 years old for one thing and STILL playing a pretty high level. Think of Ronnie Lott and how effective he was late in his career. Sammy Knight still has a few good years left. Here's his stats since he left New Orleans.

Games Played/ Tackles/ Solo/ Assisted/ Passes Defensed/ Sacks/ Forced Fumbles/ Recovery Yds/ INT/ INT Yards/ TD's

2003 MIA 16 98 78 20 6 0 2 0 3 98 0
2004 MIA 16 96 65 31 4 0 2 0 4 32 0
2005 KAN 16 90 70 20 13 2 2 80 2 12 0

Still pretty impressive if you ask me....In KC this year he was third in tackles.......behind two linebackers......something that rarely happened in New Orleans.
