People forget that in addition to having one less down, you've got a bigger field to play on! That means greater conditioning is required! Just for reference in case people aren’t aware of the difference of the game, here are some of the difference; Field: 110 yards by 65 yards vs. 100 yards by 65 yards Endzones 20 yards deep vs. 10 yards deep 3 downs vs. 4 downs Offence has 20 seconds from ref's signal to start play vs. 45 seconds 12 players on field vs. 11 All players in backfield (except QB) are allowed unlimited motion prior to snap of the ball vs. only 1 player Punt and kick receivers have a five-yard zone of protection until ball is caught. No "fair catch" rule vs. "Fair Catch" rule to avoid hit Single point awarded for preventing a recovered punt or missed field goal from advancing out of the end zone Missed field goals can be returned Anyone behind the punter can actually recover the punt As for the comment about the weather… well it is true that it can get pretty cold up here, remember that the CFL season starts in June and the Grey Cup (equal to the Superbowl) is generally in late November. Additionally the weather in Buffalo or Green Bay is much worse than Hamilton…in general. Someone with Gardners skills should prove to be quite an asset in the CFL, especially with McMannus as his QB. Some WR excel in this type of game (ie. Raghib (Rocket) Ismail). I just hope that Gardner does as well. Ps. If you ever want to watch some of the biggest football hits, just tune into a game at the start of the season. You will always see some kick returner signaling for a fair catch… (opps… not in the CFL)… It’s always amusing to see that poor kid get labeled… |
