Screw AJ Hawk, we're getting Ray Lewis...

Lewis on the block?
<Feb. 11> According to the Baltimore Sun, associates and friends close to Lewis have said that he doesn't want to play in Baltimore for the 2006 season.
Ravens General manager Ozzie Newsome said the linebacker hasn't informed the team of any such intention, but did admit that Lewis had a recent meeting with team owner Steve Bisciotti in Florida, and said Lewis asked to be traded before the start of the 2005 season. he seven-time Pro Bowl performer actually went into a self-imposed isolation from the team last season after the Ravens declined to restructure his contract, which still has three years left.

League sources have said the Ravens were sending out "feelers" in a possible trade for Lewis, but they haven't gotten more than a second- round draft pick in exchange.

From ESPN. No chance. But it would be pretty amazing.

RE: Screw AJ Hawk, we

I would love to have Lewis but how long would he last, another year or two? I believe he will be 31 before the start of the season. Hawk would provide 10 years to us of what Lewis has for the Ravens.

Geaux Hawk Geaux!

maximkat 02-11-2006 08:36 PM

yeah just the kind of upstanding citizen id like to see on this team, thanks but no thanks.

I think Lewis gets a bad rap. He's supposedly a very good teammate, but many people still refer to the "incident." He didn't do anything. The reason he got in trouble is because he witnessed something his friend did and lied about it. Sure it's bad, but just wanted people to know that he didn't stab anybody, which is a common misconception.

maximkat 02-11-2006 10:29 PM

first in the words of haslett id like to say that he's a helluva football player, its just the kind of image id rather not have on this team. i wont take anything away from him on the football field, i'm just feelin this team has enough issues to deal with. players with off the field issues like this disturb me, its why i dont want to see TO here either.

TheDeuce 02-12-2006 01:40 AM

Understandable. I just think that if we had the opportunity to get him, there's no reason why we should let it pass us by. I think he's really matured in this leage over the last few years, and he's not old yet. He's got several years left to play.

papz 02-12-2006 07:52 AM

I want him but he cost to much money. We have more than one need on this team and it's going to cost us a crap load to get him and a high draft pick. I'd rather go with the cheaper option while not losing a pick... Akin or Witherspoon.

gfanaticlsu 02-12-2006 09:21 AM

Hey, they are possibly looking for a QB. We can trade AB and maybe a 3rd rd pick for Lewis he can't cost to much more than AB and I guarantee that we can get 3 good years out of him. We have a lot of young LB's that can use some good on-field mentorship (notice I said on-field). Hey I'm not asking for the Pope. I just want to see the Saints win. I would take him. It would fill a major hole and we can move Watson. Can you imagin Watson, Lewis and Buckwalt. We need to win now not in 3 or 4 years. I think it's worth the shot to get a great linebacker who is still in his prime dispite his age.

Euphoria 02-12-2006 11:23 AM

Pass... to many issues, will cost money, to old, to this to that... a few years ago hell yes but an age doesn't help him now so... go get AJ or Ferguson.

LivnaLieTimay 02-12-2006 01:19 PM

I would definately take Ray Lewis on our team if we could sign him for relatively cheap. He would add some much needed leadership to our defense and he brings a lot of intensity and enthusiasm to every game. He has matured in his later years and I do not think his character would be an issue at this point in his career.

hagan714 02-12-2006 03:46 PM

Ray is a keeper but he wants a shoot at another ring and we are not on his list of teams.

AllSaints 02-13-2006 06:54 AM

well I would love Ray Ray on the team........ He is a good great FB player............ He is a heckuva lot better than any of our linebackers combined......... I think it would be pretty cool but he probly want to go us...

Euphoria 02-13-2006 08:17 AM

Whats cheap??? He said he is looking for a payday... ya know like Manning Money, that is the issue in Baltimore so there is no way we are going to get him cheap.

saintswhodi 02-13-2006 09:55 AM

If I had a choice between Ray and Hawk, it would be Hawk all day. Ever since the superbowl, Ray Lewis has not been THAT Ray Lewis. He can still be a rah rah guym and he DEFINITELY would be the best LB on OUR defense, but that's not saying much. So would Witherspoon or Ayodele and they would be much cheaper, hell, we could prob get both of them for the price of Ray, or one of them and Cato June. Unless Ray wanted to come in and be LB coach, i'd have to pass. This would once again be this team paying for a name, instead of a player.

Haha but Whodi, at this point, with this team, I would almost be willing to pay big money just for a name like Ray Lewis. Better than our other starting LBs: Colby Bockwoldt (WHO???), Ronald McKinnon (HE'S STILL IN THE LEAGUE???), T.J. SLAUGHTER (WASN'T HE A WRESTLER???)

FatiusJeebs 02-13-2006 10:57 AM

Lewis over Hawk?? Thats as absurd as the whole get Kitna deal I read in a different thread.

FatiusJeebs 02-13-2006 10:58 AM

Forget Lewis....he's been in the league LOOONG enough. I say we start fresh and get Hawk.

stylee10 02-13-2006 11:11 AM

No thanks. If we can't have talented people let's at least have people who don't lack morals completely. The guy is a washed-up scumbag. We going to go after Rae Carruth next?

 That dude there!

WhoDatQB 02-14-2006 07:58 AM

TheDeuce,
I agree, I thank that I would take Lewis for a 3 or 4 year modest contract, he will not garner really big money b/c of his age. I would rather have the 2 or 3 good years that Lewis has left than the 7 or 8 the bums we have now can give us. Maybe Lewis could show Buckwoldt how to tackle and then we would have two LB's that are pretty good instead of 3 bums.

BJSim 02-14-2006 08:31 AM

I'm hoping, instead of paying for Ray Lewis and his cocky addittude, that our coaches can teach Buckwoldt to do his job better. We're looking for outside saviors when we still don't know what these players can do with real coaching. I watched a boatload of football this year (thank god for DirectTV) and I would hear ex-Saints names called and the announcers praise how good they were. It's time to let our coaches do their jobs and teach OUR GUYS to be the announcers darlings.

zachsaints52 02-14-2006 10:47 AM

I'd like to get him, but no max contract or nothing. He makes players around him better, and willing to teach them what he knows (Ed Reed!).... I think I would take him and spend the 1st rounder on something else.

FatiusJeebs 02-14-2006 01:55 PM

Ok...let me see....Lewis...McKinnon, Hawk, and one more good OLB? We have the slow beginnings of a good 3-4...;0) I know I am a pain for pushin this but....I would like to see it happen.

WhoDatQB 02-14-2006 02:20 PM

Screw AJ Hawk, we're getting Ray Lewis...

FatiusJeebs,
I could shoot counterpoints all day, but at the end of the day you will still want Hawk and I want to see Leinart. I will say I am with you I would love to see the 3-4 in NO, but without 2 first round picks this year there will be no 3-4 in NO for the next year or so, unless we are very active in FA.

FatiusJeebs 02-14-2006 02:47 PM

RE: Screw AJ Hawk, we

Well...I must admit....all this talk has definitely allowed me to really see how important this draft year is for this team. We can only pray that Payton gets it right. Well...if we free up 6 mil. with Brooks i think we can have an active FA. I hope Payton thinks like Jimmie Johnson...speed, speed, speed!

gandhi1007 02-15-2006 04:22 PM

I would love it! One of the greatest LB's of all time & a natural born leader. This guy is known for making everybody else on the defense better. He studies game film at his own home w/ the younger guys. This would be the perfect scenario for our defense. Well, that & drafting Bobby Carpenter in round 2.

Nicely put gandhi. I think his clubhouse presence is being extremely underrated. Sure, he might have gotten a bad rap like 7 years ago, but that was a long time ago, and he didn't even do anything. More importantly, the guys on his team don't care about all that crap, they care about football. This guy loves the game, he loves studying the game, and perhaps most importantly, he's really good at the game.

hagan714 02-16-2006 08:05 AM

HE DOES NOT WANT TO COME HERE! HE WANTS A RING IN HIS FINAL YEARS! Take AJ and leave the ray out of it. Kendrick Clancy DT 6-1 305 lbs. is the defensive F/A we should look at.

FatiusJeebs 02-16-2006 08:47 AM

Ray Lewis or not...this team needs to seriously beef up the defense. I say get AJ and a host of nasty defensive players. That with a decent FA QB and I think we can go very far.

Remember, Lewis is frome the south. I've been to Baltimore, & believe me, etoufee, gumbo, & boiled crawfish could get just about anybody from the south whose lived in Baltimore for 12 years to jump ship! 8)

hagan714 02-16-2006 09:13 AM

:givemebeer: with that menu. God knows that is true. Only good cooking in the country is back home
