Par for the Course

It's been said that our franchise is "cursed." And for nearly 40 years, there has been a lot of evidence to support that claim. We've been "screwed" quite often, sometimes we've done it to ourselves, and sometimes others have done it to us. Everyone from owners, to players, to officials, to Katrina and Rita has taken their turn. And I have a sneaking suspicion that it's not going to end. I can see it coming, like a train wreck in slow motion. It all started when the Texan pulled out an overtime lose against the 49ers in the last game of the season, securing the number one overall pick. Now, they have the pick and no aching need for the top RB or QB. So, what are they likely to do? Trade it to a team that needs it more. You can see it already in motion. It will probably go to the Jets, who will in turn select Leinart. And we will then spend our pick on Young, who is looking more and more over-hyped and far less likely to adapt to a NFL offense. And we will continue to carry on our long history of ineptness. Is it out of the rhelm of possibility, considering our "cursed" past? The dominoes have begun to fall into place.

Would it be a good idea for us to trade with Houston so we could secure Lienart? Or what about trading down to the Jets and picking up some extra picks and then trading back up to Houston? Maybe we could come out with #1 and an extra later round pick out of the deal. I don't even know if that is possible or if there is enough difference in value between #2 and #4 to make it possible.

i say if the jets do that let them. let them over pay for a player not in terms of money but in terms of picks. what we need not do is select young. if we do that then yes i would agree with you we are in fact doomed. it isn't so much his ability to be so painfully inept at answering basic questions and then again it is. well at least that is a part. his ability to run better then he throws is also scary. if we select him i am pretty sure you will not ever again see me on this site. i will at that point almost certainly not be a saints fan. if we take cutler i will be ok. if we trade down i will be ok. if we select hawk i will be ok. but if because new york jumps ahead of us we select vince count me out. the guy is probably a lesser vick. that just doesn't do it for me. i like the fact that i am hearing that payton likes cutler. then again he may be saying that so that the jets don't jump us. then again he could be saying that because gosh dang it he means it. i am happy with either cutler or matt. even though before i didn't like matt. either one i am happy with and i am leaning towards cutler at this moment. i don't know to me there is something about a guy, who says i can do it and i will show you all that, i just happen to like. a guy who says i want to be mentioned with the other guys. a guy who says i am throwing because you guys are going to enjoy watching me and i am going to make some heads turn. i like that.

Your team stinks

Trade down take Cutler or Hawk and be thankful that we don't have to pay as much and get a whole lot more picks.

I see anywhere in the top 7 to give us an impact player to fill our needs. With ferguson we can cut gandy an his 4 million this year can go alone way to absorb the cap hit he will cause. After Veron Davis's work out, I would love to see him in Black and Gold. He is a H back in TE body is so damn tempting. Cutler is now a solid choice to me also. With the OL the way it is now we need a QB that can stand in there and take a beating. Matt will break and VY will be running for his life (flashes of AB). Do not be surprised if Payton takes a QB in 2 or 3 instead. He may see something he thinks he can groom as the steal of the draft and make his mark in the nfl. Could AB be in line to get a new 3 year contract here? Does Payton think he can save him or at the least make him a better trade bait for the front office next year?

If we go after TE, it will be later round, hopefully Jeff King or maybe the TE from Texas? I would love to trade down, because it wou.d get us another 2nd at least. I want a OL and a LB in the first two rounds, and a 2nd for somethign else we need. Maybe get a QB in the 2nd like you say??? I just think it would be better. And the 4 mil from Gandy would come in nicely too.

trade down and get a guy like davis would not upset me at all. he can block so he an OL. he can catch so he is a good option with zach and would reduce the # of drops we had last year. besides with his speed it is like another WR or RB on the field. I think we need LB's and OL help but if a team like oakland offers picks to good to be true then i would not be upset with the pick. Besides Bush, he is the next big offensive impact players in the draft. I only see Bush as more of an impact player because he is a RB/WR/R guy. Davis is a perinnal pro bowler waiting to happen.
You are right we would loose him after 4 years anyways to F/A like we always do.

There is also a reciver out of Florida with the last name of Johnson who may be more of an impact player.
