Question about Aaron Brooks
If he is going to be cut, is it going to be by today? Or not necessarily, b/c we're already below the salary cap, and they're gauging any trade interest?

RE: Question about Aaron Brooks
Its all speculation at this point db. Payon and Loomis have the last word and so far...the word is mum.
|
I would guess they were waiting on this whole CBA mess to go one way or another, and wanting to gauge trade interest. He is the only former starting QB who will be on the market who ISN'T coming off some kind of injury or another. There should be SOME interest. He will be cut or traded at some point, barring a restructuring of his deal, which I am personally hoping does not happen, cause it means they will have been fooled into giving this clown another shot. And I will tell you what, you wanna see casual fans tune the Saints out int he dome next year, have Aaron Brooks be announced as your starter again. Yuck.

I think the deadline is March 3, so by 5pm tomorrow (or whatever the last possible minute is) he'll be on his way. There's going to be too many free agents out there soon to commit another 3 years to this money pit.

...forget about the money for a minute... the way I see it, if Payton keeps Aaron, he only has 2 options: 1.- Keep status quo. Brooks is guaranteed again his starting spot. 2.-Make Brooks earn his spot and make it known his job is NOT secure... ..which one you want to have? Same-old Brooks or disgruntled Brooks, possibly losing his job to Boumann in training camp? ..I personally don't see any other option for Payton but to cut him, being tomorrow or June 1st... he may keep him until June 1st because of the draft as to not make the Saints look desperate for a QB, or maybe is better for the cap... ..but being tomorrow or June 1st, fumbles has GOT to go |
Bouman needs to go too, if not first! I really don't want him to be given another chance either
|
keep AMac, cut the other two clowns, draft Lienart, sign Ramsey. Can't be any clearer.
|
The cut deadline most people are talking about is the 3/2 11pm deadline to get you team in compliance with the salary cap. Since the Saints are under and don't have to pay Brooks until 6/1 don't look for him to be cut anytime soon. He's still draft day trade bait and the longer Payton keeps him the rolls the more it looks (to other teams) like he may stay.
He'll only get cut prior to the draft IF we pick up a major talent and then need a little extra cap room. |
What pisses me off is Haz didn"t give AMAC a chance last seasons. who knows, maybe we don"t need to draft a QB in the first round, the starter maybe sitting on the bench behind two clowns.
|
I mentioned the same thing in another thread. All this talk about Leinart, Cutler, Young and stuff...what about AMAC? What IF we already have someone with the tools for success? If my memory serves me right..AMAC got lots and lots of praise for his skills. His little college problems caused him to be drafted so low.

I believe that Brooks is owed $6 million if he's not cut by the start of free agency, which would be Sunday night at 12:00pm. I could be wrong, but all the articles in other posts seem to point to that milestone. Either way, he's only good for a 6th or 7th, and for 6 large, the Saints could sign 2-3 quality defensive free agents and focus on the O for the draft.

Bouman will never be able to beat out Brooks not even on Boumans best day ever...

..just because McCarthy and Haslett insisted of giving Brooks any and every opportunity and excuse they could for Brooks to remain the starter, going way beyond what any other team has done in the history of the NFL for any QB, doesn't mean that he can actually beat someone in competition... ... and no, he did NOT beat either Blake or Delhomme, because the coaching staff never allowed any competition... |
I have to disagree with you... there was competition and Brooks was given the helm because he did well at it. Bouman played in games and it was scary at best... as a back up you have to be ready to go at any time and Bouman did not woo anyone. What he did prove is that an injured Brooks is a better Bouman any day. I didn't think Amac was a capable starter either this year but given his chances to develop into something. I don't think putting him in at any point this year would have been a good thing, part of the problem is that line and we have to address that not only for the qb's but for our running game as well. You can't put the problems of running and qb solely on the position. Deuce injured sure but that line has to share the responsiblity for its failures as well. If your line can't block why put someone behind them who for one is being developed and take the chance at getting them killed.

..if you want to fool yourself into thinking there was an actual competition for the position, go ahead... ... yes Boumann was scary, but how else can he look given that he NEVER got a SINGLE snap with the first team WHILE IN N.O , i.e., 3 seasons, .until he was declared the starter 3 quarters into the distaster that was the 2005 season? |
True dat Tobias...they never gave him any competition...Non of the other qb's in camp took snaps with the first team ever...and hardly got any snaps in preseason, that say to me that for the last three years or so they were trying to amke him a starter and never could...we need a wide open competition in camp this year, I think we will get that with Payton
|
The fact that Bouman or AMAC didn't take too many practice snaps makes AB even worse in my opinion. The guy got everything handed to him and we all know he can't say he didn't get enough practice.
|
i think amac will still need 2 more years to develop into a solid back up.
|
Maybe Payton thinks he can save Brooks for a year or two. Redo his contract for 3 years. Maybe trade with atlanta? lol Oakland may take him? ect. ect.
With payton here I have no ides what he is going to do. He kept collins in NY even with the fans screaming for his head. He saved Collins enough to make Okland think he was worth the $$$ |
