Free-agent news and rumors Could another Patriots safety be heading for New Orleans? By PFW staff April 24, 2003 S Victor Green may be the latest Patriots safety to head to New Orleans. Green and the Saints are reportedly in negotiations, according to the player, but the talks have slowed because of the imminent draft. Although Green reportedly thinks a deal can be struck before Saturday’s draft, it is more likely that something will come together early next week. Former Patriots FS Tebucky Jones has already been traded to the Saints, and the Pats want more depth at safety  without paying big bucks. New England has Lawyer Milloy and Rodney Harrison as its starting pair and inexperienced Antwan Harris as the third safety. Green, who signed a one-year deal with New England before last season, still could return to the Patriots, but there have not been any serious talks recently. Following a workout with the Raiders on Wednesday, free-agent WR Marcus Robinson will be visiting with the Niners Thursday. According to Robinson’s agent, Ken Sarnoff, the recently released Bears wide receiver is being considered by six other teams  Arizona (which has given Robinson an offer), Miami, Baltimore, Green Bay, Detroit and New England. Rams RFA ORT John St. Clair signed his one-year tender of $650,000 to remain with the team. The Niners matched the Lions’ offer sheet of $805,000 to retain LS-TE Brian Jennings, whom they consider one of the league’s best deep-snappers. We'll see what happens here. I like Victor Green but I hope that the Saints don't get carried away with giving up good picks for him. I could see the Patties going for Mathis if this deal goes through. |

Giving up picks? Isn\'t he a UFA? Wow, Jones, Green, and Mitchell?!?! That\'s awesome. Throw in my trade down strategy and the Smoot deal and you may be looking at...
Jones and Mitchell/Green Carter and Smoot with Craver, Ambrose, Thomas, and possibly even a guy like Mathis coming in the draft Possibly Bailey or Henderson along with Allen, Ruff, Hodge, and Smith Grant, Joseph or Peterson, Jackson, and Howard. DAMN. Now I\'m freaking psyched!! Somebodt bring me back to reality quickly!! I\'m starting to see Super Bowl stars. I must have hit my head. |

i thought green was free agent too, he\'s defintely not worth any picks, espicially picks that interfere with SMOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
however signing him from free agency is truly a solid move as long as the price teag isn\'t exorbiant, remember we still have to give horn some big bucks, which by the way is another good reason for trading down |

Victor Green is an unrestricted free agent. However, the Patriots retained the right of first refusal on him. Which means they can still keep him if they match the offer.
