this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; When am I going to read those magical words: "Saints cut Aaron Brroks" ? Is he due a roster bonus? Or is there some certain cutoff date where we have to release him or pay some kind of salary installment? ...

"Saints cut Aaron Brroks" ? Is he due a roster bonus? Or is there some certain cutoff date where we have to release him or pay some kind of salary installment? Basically, when do we get rid of Smiley? :P I just threw an interception Haz! |

RE: Question about Aaron Brooks
June 1, mark it on your calendar! There have been some dreadful names in NO qb history fo sho. The prob with smiley is that he was a tease. Talent n tools but no touch, no leadership, no grit, and that magical ability to personally screw up at the most game changing/defining moments. As bad as the Billy Joes were never in the history of this franchise (and i remember ed hargett LOL) have i been so relieved to see a QB go. i just hate that his name will still be splattered in the record book. Hopefully, Drew at 27 can erase some of those.

Guys, I haven't bothered to read the ins and outs of Levar Arrington's decision on leaving Washington.
But I wouldn't be shocked to see Brooks try to buy his way out of N.O. Since he's a pretty dim bulb, he really needs to start working on a playbook now if he has any prayer of starting next season. If he waits around until June 1 to become available and possibly June 10 to get signed, I don't think it's realistic to think he'll even be competative in camp for a starting spot. I believe many things about Aaron Brooks. The one thing I'm most certain of is that ego is his defining characteristic. He believes he should start, but he's not very smart. He needs the time to pick up the playbook, he might be willing to try and buy his way out of here. It would be genius on Loomis' part to suggest that to AB. |

Brooks may be Dumb, but his agent isn't. He'll stick it out on the off chance something might happen. Agents are greedy and usually smart, so if his could find a way to make money out of the situation he'd be doing it.

I heard on ESPN yesterday that due to a new rule in the NFL this year, each team can cut 2 players before June 1st and it not be counted till June 1st. If this is true, look for Smiley to be released soon.

I hate that we're going to have to just cut smiley. The only negative thing about getting rid of "the great QB on a mediocre team" is getting nothing for him. How I wish we had dealt him last year. |

Joesam... would you want to give a team THAT MUCH time with Brooks to learn their O? I wouldn't, it's in the Saints interest to hold on to him so he's got less of a chance of being picked up, or becoming a starter. It's cruel, but that the way the game works.
