Bushwhack

i thought of this in another thread. it sounds perfectly plausible contingent upon...

Can we get a 2nd Rd pick for Deuce? I have liked him but he isn't looking any thinner or faster but his contract is.

if so, use one of the 2nds and TRADE UP to #1 with Houston. Have Bush lined up to go straight from the podium to signing a contract. All-Pro QB and a marquee RB would sell a helluva a lot of tickets.

What is the vote on this one?

RE: Bushwhack

a big negative from me

I actually like that scenario. Don't get me wrong, I like Deuce, always have, but, he's getting injury-prone, he's not getting any faster, and like you've pointed out, he's bulking up. Even last year, before his injury ,I was commenting on how he looks different in his running as opposed to a few years ago. He's a grinder, getting the hard yardage but his break-aways have gone down. For the future I like Bush, if, we can still get our other areas addressed. If not, stick with Deuce, cover the glaring needs first. Any way you look at it, it's going to be a banner year for the Saints!

LivnaLieTimay 03-15-2006 04:18 PM

I'd love to have Reggie on our team but only if he's not chosen with the first pick. If Bush is on the board at #2 that would be the guy I'd like us to take. He is going to be so much fun to watch and could make an immediate impact with us. I just don't want to give up picks or players for him.

saintswhodi 03-15-2006 04:21 PM

We can't trade Deuce.

ssmitty 03-15-2006 04:23 PM

kelly, the last time i mentioned getting rid of duece, duecettes were out in force........
if we can pick up extra picks, i'd like white please.....................smitty

Who else is on the "Deuce is old, slow and ugly" train? Maybe there's more momentum there than we'd all like to admit...

BlackandBlue 03-15-2006 05:44 PM

count me out.

saintbuck 03-15-2006 05:46 PM

one more year, but if he gets hurt again, count me in

..without getting into comparisons and analogies :) , you can make a constructive argument for trading up for Bush or trading down for Lendale White.

LKelley67 03-15-2006 06:34 PM

i don't have have any beef with deuce. he still has some gas left i think. could have a killah year, BUT the dollars committed does worry me. we've seen too many of'em get old n slow overnight ala eddie george. my thought was more if we could flip deuce for bush without any significant cost, just switch players. whodi, in a trade doesn't the tradee assume the contractual/cap obligations of the player? if so, someone might want him if we pay some of the obligation.

saintswhodi 03-15-2006 06:47 PM

In a trade, the cap obligation falls 100% on us. So Deuce's bonus for the what, 5 year contract he signed last year would all accelerate to this year. Not a good idea IMO. We made him untradeable for 2-3 years the minute we gave him his deal. And no way I committ that kinda money to Deuce and Bush. Maybe we can look at Addai in the second or something if we get extra picks.

jrmllb 03-15-2006 06:50 PM

Thats a big Negative from me...keep Deuce, pick up Addai in the 2nd round, resign Antowain Smith, keep stecker for passing downs out of the backfield or just cut him...Addai is a better pass blocker than Stecker and after that 4o he ran at the combine I know he's faster...

Anyone remember if Addai has returned kicks or punts at LSU?

By the way I think they will end up cutting Beerman...I would be sorry to see him go, but really how fast is he going to be after the ACL?

D_it_up 03-15-2006 07:51 PM

I'm also out on the "trade Deuce" scenario.

spkb25 03-15-2006 08:02 PM

this really burns my ass. really burns my ass. i said this last year. what did i get a whole lot of i was wrong. i said he hasn't hasd the long runs he used to break. that he isn't breaking tackles anymore. now all you bandwagon jumpers are singin my song. if you haven't payed me a royalty then hop off already.

cajunsaint 03-15-2006 08:15 PM

scoop up addai, keep deuce and lets play football
