BREES BLOWS SMOKE ON SIGNING DECISION
BREES BLOWS SMOKE ON SIGNING DECISION
We read with great interest the comments of quarterback Drew Brees regarding his decision to sign with the Saints. "Really, what it came down to was who I felt like believed in me the most," Brees told the Times-Picayune on Tuesday. Bullcrap, we say. The Fins, as we've heard it, yanked the offer to Brees and pulled the trigger on a trade for Daunte Culpepper because Drew and his agent were dragging their feet regarding the money that the Fins were willing to pay for a dude with a busted shoulder. Technically, Brees is telling the truth. The decision did come down to who believed in him the most because the Dolphins made clear that they no longer believed in him by, you know, pulling the offer. Here's another gem: "The Saints have made it clear from the beginning that I'm their guy they want to build this thing with, and that's really exciting." Drew, if you're "their guy to build this thing with," your contract wouldn't contain a $12 million option bonus due in 2007. For now, they view you as a rental property. A trial run. And you get $10 million bucks to be the guinea pig. Not a bad deal, but let's not call this a long-term arrangement because anyone with any sense knows that it isn't. It could end up working out if, for example, you don't go Chad Pennington when the season starts. For now, though, it's a one-year experiment. http://<br /> http://www.profootbal.../rumormill.htm |

Way to class it up PFT. Is there a less professional sports news website on the Internet?

I hope we don't draft lineart, it think there is serious value in the lower picks this year than in most past drafts...Come on Hawk, Williams, Mangold, D'brick, anyother year those guys are locks in the top 5 or 6...The bonus is most likely to force a renegotiation, which you would expect if:
1. He gets reinjured 2. He wins the first Black and Gold Super Bowl 3. Lights up the freakin' scoreboard and wins the Super Bowl |

this is what i like about that. they went after a guy they like. he wanted to be a dolphin no doubt but we got him in the end. i don't think the dolphins pulled their offer as much as there was nothing he would take from them and in order to save face signed pepper as fats as possible to make him look bad. what i like the most is that the saints basically said we will keep you over the long haul if the shoulder is a working if it isn't we will be going in another direction. i really like what the saints did here

I was at first Skeptical by the offer, but after reading more it is only and I say that with a little sarcasm a 10 million dollar gamble. Wich leads me to believe that either Cutler or Leinart will be drafted with the first pick. Hopefully with a trade down to the 4th spot and some additional early rounders, due to the unkown. The torn rotator is the issue. Two quarterbacks that had this surgery have not fared well, both Tim Coach and Pennington, so there has to be a plan B because Bouman is not the answer
