this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; people keep saying we are likely to take mario williams with the 2nd pick. if we were to do that is there anyway we would be looking to go to a 3-4 and make him an outside lb. is that ...

RE: is this at all possible
will smith fits the bill better if going to 3-4. see the thread asking about that... 3-4 no go.
why? bpa philosophy. he is a beast, graded as the best defensive player at any position this year, not just de. think julius peppers disruptive. are we sorry we took deuce when having williams? sorry we took will smith when having grant and howard? i would take d'brick if they were both on the board. but if they did take him i wouldn't gripe either. either way the offensive or defensive lines will be set on the ends for a while. |

are we sorry we took deuce when we had williams, NO. Are we sorry we took smith when we had grant and howard, NO. Those picks were not the 2nd overall pick in the draft. We had the luxury of taking the best available player where we were picking. They took the bpa as it was a better option than overpaying and drafting a position of need to early. Mario may be the rated the best defensive player in the draft, but LB and OL are more pressing needs, and if they can pick up a probowl caliber impact player for years to come at one of those positions then that is what the team should do. That being said watch them still draft Leinart, considering brees is due $ 12 million next year.

We're ok at the ends, it's the OL that we need to work on, more so now that we signed the great one, Brees.
I'd pass on Williams, now we need a good corner badly. |
