My take on the weekend........

Well I have been out for a few days and realized how quickly news can happen. So here is my take on the signings..........................

Michael Bennett - RB - A very elusive runner, who could be a viable back-up for Deuce and can come in and play well if Deuce does go down again. He is a strong runner who can catch out of the backfield and knock some DBs out. The knock on him is his inability to pass block, and he can't play a full 16 game season. So we have tried to upgrade an injury prone back with another injury prone back. I think it is a good pickup and if we don't need him more than a Kevin Faulk back we look like geniouses.

Anthony Simmons - LB - A strong and powerful LB with quick feet and great playmaking ability. In 2002 Randy Meuller called him the MOST UNDERRATED LB in the NFL. He wraps up players, and can play both run and pass. His weaknesses lately have been injuries. He han't played a 16 game season since 2001, where he had 121 tackles and 2 sacks. This could be one of the surprises this upcoming season. My only problem is that his tenacity for the ball can be mistaken for bad attitude much like Arrington. We need veteran leadership at this position and this isn't wear it is going to come from.

Omar Stoutmire - FS - An aging consistant FS that is a good "player." He is a leader on the field and immediately brings added depth to the Defensive Backfield. He is pretty much at the end of his career and does not have the athletic ability some would like in a FS. This pickup adds some needed depth to the Safety position but is not THE answer. He will be known as a team leader, but not a playmaker.

..........So here is what we did with these aquisitions: Bennett gives us our Deuce insurance, but now it seems like we need Bennett insurance because he hasn't been healthy either. Simmons I think will be a surprise aquisition because he can just flat out play, that is if he stays healthy. Stoutmire is at the end of his career and will be a defensive leader, but he won't be able to back it up on the field.

Does anyone see a major flaw with all of our FA acqs.???????? (Although I am excited about each one.) They all have come off injuries. They could either be steals or disasters.

2006 NFL DRAFT -

Here is how I hope the draft goes now. Trade down with the Jets for the 4th pick and a 3rd round and DE John Abraham. Select D'Brickashaw Ferguson, and begin the era of DaBrick Wall O- Line. In the Second round Nick Mangold to offically solidify DaBrick Wall. With the third round pick I like Roger McIntosh if he is still around. Miami has a knack for producing great players. With the 4th round pick I think Kyle Williams will still be available and will be a steal here. He needs to bulk up, but he sure has the power. With the 5th round pick it is time for some sleepers I like Martin Nance WR from Miami Ohio. He can Jump up and catch the ball over the middle and would just be a huge threat against the small DBs of the NFL. He has T.O. size body and Marvin Harrison size mouth. I really won't care what the draft looks like at the end if the begining looks remotely like this with the 1 and 2 pick solidifing the line for years, thus keeping Brees healthy.

What do you guys think of this.

This is a good point mighty. It could be a really bad year if the injuries kick in, or it could be a really good year because we have certainly picked up some VERY talented players.

He is a strong runner who can catch out of the backfield and knock some DBs out.
I don't know if I quite agree with this. From what I understand, and having seen him play a little bit, I wouldn't call him a real powerful runner. His best asset is his Olympic quality speed, and his elusiveness in the open field can most likely be attributed to that speed, not his ability to "knock DBs out." I think that's more of Deuce's job description.

OK, I like the Brick pick. Having him and Brown on the ends is just plain NASTY. I think hands down he's the most NFL-ready player out there, and seems to be the surest bet. However, I just don't think getting Abraham would be the best thing for us, just MHO. He's going to be asking for A LOT of money, and like I've said when the Mario Williams topic comes up, he plays the only position on this team that I honestly don't think needs to be upgraded. I'm also with you on the Mangold pick. He's very NFL-ready I feel, and would be able to start right away. He also plays a HUGE position of need for us because guess what, WE DON'T HAVE A CENTER!!!!! I have been saying this for the last few days, but nobody seems to hear me. Like seriously, we don't have a starting OC because we didn't keep Bentley, and we don't have a backup OC either because we let go of Jacox who was our only other center. We have brought in that other guy, but from the reports I've read, he sucks.

Not trying to be picky or anything, but I noticed you don't see us taking a LB? What's up with that? I will be shocked if we don't take at least one guy in the early rounds (especially if we trade down).

The only problem I have is that we really need a veteran center. Starting 2 rookies and a second year player is asking our 60 million dollar experiment to get killed.
