Sticking with the 4-3 D!
Saints | Team sticking with 4-3 defense
Sun, 9 Apr 2006 07:23:26 -0700 Jimmy Smith, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports the New Orleans Saints have decided to stick with their 4-3 defense. Defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs said the team's five minicamp practices won't give him enough time to completely install his defensive package, merely scratch the surface. "We've got basic, fundamental stuff in as far as fronts and coverages," Gibbs said at minicamp Saturday, April 8. "We're not doing any situational stuff. (Today) we'll do a little bit of nickel. But what this is, is just personnel evaluation. That's what we're trying to do." http://www.kffl.com/hotw/ Something we all knew but as you all know I love a confirmation! |

Now draft Hawk, put him in the middle surrounded by Fujita and Simmons.

RE: Sticking with the 4-3 D!
my question is....how easy will the transfer from OLB to ILB???? Hawk is an OLB, so we are intalling alot of confidence in him by making him switch positions and start calling the shots. Hes a damn good player, but a top 5 pick that we are switching to a diff position is kinda scary??? so im not too sure. I say we drop down, get Ngata and extra picks and then get D'qwell Jackson in the first of the 2nd round......

RE: Sticking with the 4-3 D!
exactly my point, we are spending a very high draft pick on someone that doesnt even play the position we are going to put them at. We all know Hawk is a great OLB, but what if, after the switch, hes as good as Jaskson or even Abdul Hodge for that matter. Tha means we spend a 2-5 pic on someone that could be had in the early to middle second round, as far as quality at the MLB position. A good DT will make yer LB core better. I think we have significantly revamped our LB's compared to last year. And Watson and others are still young enough to contribute. I've been saying Hawk all the way. But I say we slide down lower, get Ngata or Bunkley and then go LB in the 2nd round. If not, we need to go Hawk, then Wroten in the early 2nd. and then try and catch McNeil, the tackle out of Auburn in the mid 2nd round. After that, go CB and depth......if I was GM.......

RE: Sticking with the 4-3 D!
thats an idea I'd be in favor of. Right now the D is running Simmons and Fujita on the outsides with Bockwoldt in the middle. I kinda dont understand it, but I'd be all for Simmons in the middle with Hawk and Fujita on the outsides. But once again, who knows whats guna go on.....
