And my point was that the defense was horrible last season and needs some serious upgradeing. The offense will do if the defense is able to stop anyone this season. After givin up 25 points a game last season it seems like the worst part of the team. I will agree with you that the offense has a chance to struggle if injury hits again, but if the defense can hold people out of the endzone more this season maybe the offense wont have to be so potent.

Good to see you are watching what you say...people get edited around here.

Well, we upgrated out LB's and added a few safeties. We lost Howard, Brown and Hodge on D. Brown is the only one leaving a hole unless Smith moves to corner. On offence, we lost a G, C, T and our 3rd wr. We picked a QB coming off injury and a RB who has injury problems. The O-linemen we picked up, I know nothing much about.

I believe defense is very important, but if our offence can't move the ball, our D will tire. There are just so many needs out there. If we can get 3 solid starters out of this draft, I will be happy. Even if one of them is a 3rd receiver

Good point Boogro...we have holes at virtually every position...even kicker...so i would think that for this draft to be considered helpful, we need to get at least 3 guys that are going to be able to get on the field and play. Not talking about special teams either...i want them on the field making a difference on offense or defense. What bothers me is that our past 2nd and 3rd rounders havent done a thing.

I don't think Josh Bullocks is bad. He was a second rounder. Now the third round? Yuck. We haven't made a meaningful pick there in a while. But I think Payton brings with him a team of people who are better at talent evaluation than we had. I look for our overall drafts to improve not just cause w ehave a high pick, but also in out later round picks too.

JimBone 04-19-2006 03:06 PM

No, I think Bullocks can be a player. But if you look at Hodge, James Allen, Courtney Watson, Fincher, (Anything in common) Stinchcomb...and aside from Bockwoldt and Holland, the second day of the draft has been a wash too.

I'm withholding judgment on Stinch until anyone gets actual game footage on him. But I dig what you are saying. I just think it'll get better with the new coach and his staff.

Well one would hope so, but isnt the same guy calling the shots on draft day?

Not really. As far as I understood, Payton is being given a lot of say so in the picks.

In Hilton's defense, it's really hard for a 6'8" TE to catch balls thrown around his ankles. :? I think we will see a breakout year from Hilton if Brees stays healthy.
