Why be a slave to the Jets or Titans?

I haven't heard anyone mention this so if they have I apologize. If the Jets and Titans refuse to deal, why can't we deal with the Packers at 5? They need huge help on "D". Who's the top rated D player in this draft carrying a similar grade as Reggie Bush? Mario Williams. We trade down to 5 get more picks than we would by trading to either 2 or 3, the Packers then select Williams, the Titans would then take Leinart, the Jets would then take Young, and we are left with either Hawk or Ferguson. Even if the Jets take Ferguson and pass on Young that still leaves us with Hawk at a good value of the #5 pick.

I dont think they are set on trading with the jets or titans in particular. They are listening to all offers im sure. If its the Packers than its the packers. There is enough talent in the top of the draft that the saints need to fill holes, that it doesnt matter whether they pick 2 or 5. We are defenitaly not slaves to anyone with the postion we sit in.

No, we are definitely not slaves to anyone, but the fact is..we kind of need them and maybe more than they need us. Sure, the Saints CAN draft Williams or Ferguson or even Hawk at 2...but they would love to be able to move down and still get their guy later in the draft while stocking up on a couple of picks. If we move down anywhere from 3 to 7 and come away with one of the guys i mentioned or even Michael Huff, we did good considering we got someone who can play right away and we got a few extra picks out of it to help out in other areas.

Green Bay isn't going to trade up because they have so many holes to fill that they aren't going to trade multiple picks for just one; especially when AJ Hawk or Williams or Ferguson will still be there at #5.

how are we "slaves" for anyone? When it comes down to it we can't make people cut a deal with us. Whether or not we cut a deal with a team we'll still get the player that we want. They want our pick, not the other way around. We don't NEED to trade down, these teams NEED to trade up.

These teams don't need to trade up. The Jets have many holes to fill and think about. They can use all their pics and the Titans will get a top QB regardless. It's whether is one of them wants Leinart more.

Well at the same time we don't have to trade down. We can stay right were we are and be fine. We aren't "slaves" to anyone.

i think the ball is in our court to be honest. does that mean that things will go the way we want them to -no. the fact is we hold the pick. we will get whoever we want minus one pick. that is a damn good feeling. we would all love to trade down but if we can't we can't. i think the fact that the draft is so stocked with talent kinda hurts us a little in regards to trying to tarde the pick. either way we are still in the driving seat

I am not saying we are slaves to anyone. I just feel we can help ourselves more than anyone by going down rather than them coming up. We need the extra picks as much as they do. I would love to get Hawk at 2, but if we can get him at 4 with 2 extra pics would be great. Who knows who the Jets or Titans are in favor of? I am just saying we aren't slaves, but we just need to trade down and get some more 1st day pics

boo we do want to do that. well at least us fans want to. if you can't though you can't. you can't force a trade because if you do that you will end up with less compensation then you should

I understand. Just feel we need 3 impact players badly and we seem so incredibly thin in a lot of areas.

well lets face it... we arent a good team right now... we are rebuilding... and i dont want anyone to say that we arent b/c we are... we are picking #2 overall, that right there shows that we arent a good team and we will need to get alot of people in here to help change that... so anything we can get right now will be welcome....

The 49ers still have a pick in every round except the 2nd. I also found an interesting read....

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The San Francisco 49ers added a second first-round pick in next week's NFL draft by trading their second- and third-round picks to Denver on Wednesday for the 22nd overall selection.

The 49ers, who already have the No. 6 pick after last season's 4-12 finish, sent the 37th and 68th overall choices to the Broncos, giving San Francisco two first-round picks for the first time since 2000.

The move also might be a prelude to a gambit to move up again in the draft. Two players coveted by the 49ers -- Ohio State linebacker A.J. Hawk and North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams -- are likely to be gone before San Francisco's first-round picks.

Hawk traveled to Santa Clara to meet with 49ers officials two weeks ago

The 49ers still have 10 overall picks in the draft, including an extra pick in the sixth round and two more in the seventh. Their next pick after the first-rounders is the 84th overall, acquired in a trade with Washington for receiver Brandon Lloyd.

"We feel like we acquired more value by making the trade for this pick," 49ers coach Mike Nolan said. "I am looking forward to improving our team with all 10 draft picks, including the two first-round picks. We will continue to build this team through the draft."

Good job finding that article. Although if any team needs to keep 10 picks, its the 49ers. But if they want to move up to take Williams, i am ok with that.
