Dude no offense, but have you seen Hawk play? He's nasty on the field. Why do you think he's gonna be a bust?

TheDeuce 04-24-2006 09:31 PM

RE: Draft Williams forget hawk

YEah, why would Hawk be a bust? He's the most proven player, IMO, in the draft. He's been nothing but spectacular at OSU. When somebody drafts Mario, and then they realize that he only plays when he wants to, somebody will be kicking themselves.

Dhatboi 04-24-2006 09:35 PM

so was ryan leaf......damn saints why didnt you draft him............no way you take a player like hawk with the second pick...and then we get laughed at

TheDeuce 04-24-2006 09:38 PM

In my opinion, it shouldn't matter where you take a guy. If he's the best player for your team, then you take him. The two teams that have consistently drafted on a need basis have been the Steelers and Patriots. They've turned out pretty well don't you think?

And I would beg to differ that Ryan Leaf was the most proven player in that draft. Peyton Manning? Yeah, definitely more proven. But hey, keep it up with these awesome arguments, you keep outdoing yourself.

Dhatboi 04-24-2006 09:56 PM

first of all patriots and steelers havent been this high in the draft since when? anbody can draft needs after they win the superbowl seein how they dont have many needs? that was an easy one..........dont you think

and your sayin hawk is the best for the team do we really need hawk no juss as much as we need williams......stop being greedy we have gotten to pro-bowl caliber linebackers we have more needs than just that how about take michael huff trade down first

turbo_dog 04-24-2006 10:24 PM

This has to be a ****in joke.

Jackson26 04-24-2006 10:29 PM

The year before the Patriots won their first Super Bowl, they drafted Seymour at the #6 spot...they weren't doing so hot.

What 2 pro bowl linebackers do we have? Not quite sure you are talking about the Saints...unless you are from the past...and this is really 1991 all over again.

TheDeuce 04-24-2006 11:15 PM

And the Steelers drafted Big Ben somewhere in the middle of the draft.

Savant 04-25-2006 01:33 AM

I have no idea what Dhatboi is talking about. It's like we're talking about two different realities.

D-buck47 04-25-2006 02:49 AM

I think somebody is smoking crack :beatnik:

Savant 04-25-2006 05:23 AM

I don't know. I can see people liking Williams, but it's just not a good choice for our team. It would be nice to take the best player availible, but we can't really afford that luxery. Plus, I don't think Williams is so far superior to Hawk. In fact, I think Hawks drive alone (not even looking at his physical skills) put him head and shoulders above this defensive class.

patdog 04-25-2006 07:36 AM

I don't think Hawk is head and shoulders over Mario, but for the saints needs he's the best pick. But not at #2. If they can't trade out of #2 then they have to draft Mario or D'Brick.

Savant 04-25-2006 03:13 PM

Why do they have to draft Mario? Physical skills yes. But it's known that he tends to play when he want's to. Hawk trains, studies, and trains some more. What linebacker in the leauge is running a 4.38 40? So why can't we take him at #2? I'd be happy to pick up D-Brick too. I just haven't heard anything that's convinced me why we can't take him that early.

TIGERSAINT31 04-25-2006 05:56 PM

All the draft experts say he is the closest thing to a sure thing in the draft

Savant 04-25-2006 06:47 PM

I just feel that we can't overlooked this opportunity to pick up this guy. I think Mario and Hawk are both neck and neck (after watching film on both of them), but Hawk just makes more sense.

going into the draft Payton said he would want it to be the best player available not a needs draft i feel we dont need AJ HAWK like yall think he not commin in and bein the best player in the nfl and no one ranks him to be a outstanding pick just a solid one...unlike mario who is projected the second best talent in the nfl draft this yr and who is only a joniour and has time to mature eiether way picking hawk over Williams.......ridiculous

Grammar is your friend. Embrace it.

xan 04-26-2006 07:39 AM

Going into the draft, I'd like to be the best player available, too. Dhat must think Payton's gonna draft himself.

My father's a joniour. But he keeps that to himself.

Dhatboi 04-26-2006 07:42 AM

I'm Sorry. Does it really matter how i typed the paragraph. You know what i meant so its not a big deal. Thats the problem yall like to Critque every little thing on somebody.

Thats what i thought no comeback- Well no logical one...................... Im waiting

saintswhodi 04-26-2006 08:30 AM

Dhatboy, what draft are you watching or reading or not reading? Hawk is rated as the best LB in the last 10-15 drafts, AND several scouts have him as the best defensive player. Take off your blinders kid. You don't draft a player with the bust potential of Williams at a position you don't need. If we had crummy DEs, maybe you take a shot. I still wouldn't cause he's supsect, but maybe the team would. WE HAVE NO NEED FOR MARIO, add to the fact he IS NOT the consensus best D player in the draft as you have deluded yourself into thinking. But I am pretty certain you know that, and have for some reason undertaken a line of illogical thinking that will just piss people off instead of actually being a valid argument. Several others have taken up this same tact it seems. Have fun with that.

FatiusJeebs 04-26-2006 09:10 AM

This is a no brainer. We NEEEEED LB's. Period! If we can trade down and get some picks....GREAT! For the most part.....whatever happens....we need a guy like HAWK on our D. I think this draft should pretty much focus on LB's, OL's, and maybe a WR or DE.

Dhatboi 04-26-2006 10:11 AM

please tell me why 95% of experts hve mario before hawk... oh yea because MARIO IS BETTER.....oh nevermind they dont kno what there talking about right?.........because everyone is way smarter then they are i forgot..........just remember who gets payed to analyze and who doesnt so best defensive player in the draft no try again......some people even have vernon davis over him HAHAHAHAH.........

Dhatboi 04-26-2006 10:22 AM

and hawk didnt run no 4.38 so fellow saints fans stop lying to each othe.............He ran two 40s in 4.59 and 4.66 seconds.........and had just as many bench presses as jay cutler with 24.and hes not even a middle linebacker what were missin........ so i dont see the point please inform me why we need hawk

Uhmm... Most NFL team's talent scouts have A.J. Hawk has the top defensive player in this draft. They also claim that he is the only "sure thing" on defense in this year's draft. Some (like Tennessee's college scout) have gone as far as to say that his name will one day be enshrined in Canton at the Hall of Fame.

"Super Mario", on the other hand, is conceived by most scouts to be a hit or miss talent with great physical attributes. :?

I don't know about you guys, but I think I'd go with the guy most NFL team scouts say is the "sure thing". Not the guy Mel Kiper all of a sudden got a hard on far at the end of the college season because he has similar physical attributes to Julius Peppers.

These are Hawk's Pro Day workouts at Ohio State. If I'm not mistaken, those times were on grass at that.

Quote:

March 9, 2006

(11:30 pm) 100 scouts and coaches turned out for the Ohio State pro day. Bill Cowher, Lovie Smith, Tom Coughlin, Romeo Crennel, Matt Millen, Ted Thompson, and Terry Bradway were some of the coaches and GMs who were there. Wide receiver Santonio Holmes was timed between 4.29 and 4.35 in the 40-yard dash. Donte Whitner run between 4.28 and 4.37. Bobby Carpenter ran the 40-yard dash in the high-4.5 to low-4.6-second range. A.J. Hawk clocked in the 4.38-4.40 range for his 40.
But, don't take my word for it. Here's the link:

alrite my bad i didnt see the ohio state one but it really doesnt help us at home we have turf but ill give you that one....hawk speed does play a good role in drafting him i wouldnt mind drafting him without williams on the board but with him on the board no way......

I'll say this again: WE-DO-NOT-NEED-A-DEFENSIVE-END!!!!!!. A defensive tackle...yes. Defensive end...NO! We already have two good ones. Besides that, I would not want to waste our 1st round pick on a "hit or miss" player that is known for taking plays off. Remember Jonathon Sullivan? Huge hit or miss. We all know how that turned out. The only people earning dividends off of the Saints drafting "Sully" are the eateries in New Orleans. :D

BrooksMustGo 04-26-2006 02:14 PM

#2--The Immortal Mario Williams

Trade Charles Grant to the Packers for #5.

#5--Aloysius Javon Hawk

Everyone is happy down in Saints land.

TheDeuce 04-26-2006 02:21 PM

BMG, hahahaha that's ridiculous.

But gandhi is right here. We just don't need a DE. We do, however, need a LB. Besides, Mario is so inconsistent, that I don't see how we can pass up the safest pick in the draft with Hawk.

jnormand 04-26-2006 03:41 PM

I'll admit, Grant didn't have a "steller" year last season. But to trade him away and draft Williams....um..no. Grant is a good DE and we don't need another one. Smith and Grant are very good, no need to waste a 1st round pick on a player that isn't a need.

Dhatboi, sorry bro...IMO it's a waste of a pick.
