not gonna happen. there's too many quality players for teams picking early to forego picks just to satisfy some neanderthal need to trade themselves into another losing season. They're gonna make the Saints self immolate before they hose themselves - it's in our history, and we do seem to be a repetitively stupid franchise.

RE: Very good news
Yes we have made some bad picks in years past, but there might be a team like the Raiders or 49ers who feel that trading up might be able to land them a player that is worth it. What if Bush isn't drafted first? Then some team might want to trade up. I know you enjoy being pessimistic, but I'm just glad to see that we've received calls about trades considering that analysts were talking about nobody wanting to trade with us.

I don't enjoy being pessimistic, I just enjoy being pleasantly surprised instead of overly and unjustifably optimistic. Until there's demonstrable progress, I'm not going to say there's been such. I'm of the opinion that there are dozens of quality running backs and DE's out there, but not that many qbs and lbs. Qbs and Lbs are positions that make or break teams, and our Saints haven't had both on the same team ever. This year we may get that chance to sneak out of the doghouse if we don't rely on some fictitious idiotic team "bailing" us out. The Jets nor the Titans nor the Raiders are going to play ball until we've made our pick at #2. We need to take ownership of what we have and build on the core positions. Draft Lienart and wait to see what happens, even if Bush is available. The worst we'll have is insurance against Brees' not playing, which is a strong possibility. The best is for a team who really wants him to have to deal upfront and quickly. Otherwise we'll overpay for whomever else we draft and start the cycle all over again.

LB's are QB's of the defense. |

An injured Drew Brees has a stronger are than Leinart. Leinart is not the answer

I posted this already in the thread entitled, aptly enough, "Saints starting to get calls." :P

I'm glad to hear they're getting calls too. The way I see this is that the Saints have so many holes they can trade down and still fill a need with a gifted player. I just hope they don't get stubborn on the compensation like they did with trying to trade Howard last year. Getting something even if it's just a low 2nd for dropping to 4th or 5th is better than staying pat and getting a player that wont help the team anymore than the player we could have gotten at 5 - especially if it's the same player.
