True, I like the fact that this guy is really smart and seems to be a leader. He apparently has great intangibles. However, I just don't know what led us to pass up on Youboty or Hodge or all these other guys on the board that had first and second round grades.

Youbouty, Hodge, and Wroten fell to the third. Every other team saw the same thing as the Saints FO.

Wroten I understand, he has a drug problem. I'm not sure about the others. Youboty was a potential first-rounder.

I'm also kind of worried about Reggie being happy in New Orleans.

Quote:

Bush didn't get away, even though I'd heard earlier in the day that Bush had his agent, Joel Segal, tell the Saints that Bush didn't want to play for them and wanted to be a Jet.
That was from an article by ESPN columnist Michael Smith. I wonder what he HONESTLY feels about it. Payton can say whatever he wants about Reggie being happy about being a Saint, but I wonder what he really feels. If he's not happy, I think that will make him want more money.

Well if Reggie feels bad about what he's making, he ought to call his good buddy Matt Leinart. I bet Leinart would love to have gotten a call from New Orleans.

lol BMG.

The Harper pick baffles me, but they get paid to evaluate, I get paid to...what do I do anyway?

I can feel better about getting behind the bush pick because our FO didn't two the two things we could have easily done: 1) take a deal that hoses us and makes the other team look good, 2) reach for someone else when the obvious choice, talent-wise, was sitting in our laps. Bush wasn't my first choice, but at number 2, with him there and no good deals...good job.

well payton got the second safety he was after. Smith to CB? Bullock slides over?

JimBone 04-30-2006 12:39 AM

I am not going to rush to judge this draft just yet...Payton seems to be very high on Harper and he referred to both he and Bush as "their type of player". So you can just see him trying to put his stamp on this team. Which means you can cross off anyone on your draft board with a history of off field issues or work ethic questions...and that is something i can live with.

Good point, JB. Nice to see that in Payton after our last regime

Tobias-Reiper 04-30-2006 01:22 AM

For years everyone (including myself) has been *****ing and moaning about the Saints choosing physical talent over football skills. Here's this kid Harper, that most everyone, when referring to him, uses words like "intelligent" and "hard hitter", and having "football skills".

Make up your minds.

JimBone 04-30-2006 03:02 AM

I like the idea of having that kind of players on the team...but just not so much at that position...how about an intelligent leader at perhaps...DT...or LB...or CB...or OT...
