first i have liked this draft. also

you can'y really jude this draft until a couple of years go by but i have liked it and here is the reason. nearly every pick the saints have taken have the same words in their profs. either they are over achievers or they giveyou everything they can. that is what we have complained about. now we are getting guys like that. we should be happy about that.

I hate the draft but I do like the fact that with the vets we acquired in trading down, it gives us a better chance to win now. Time to forget about the queer picks... we added beef up front on both sides of the ball. I can't wait til camp starts so we can start to gel.

BiggPoppaFro4 04-30-2006 03:28 PM

This draft has had me going WTF all weekend, but as a whole, it makes sense. We needed to rebuild our young depth for special teams and in general need areas. We also needed to get leaders and quality guys, as opposed to the people we apparently had.

I think we've done alright. The more I read about each pick, the more I can live with them.

Remember this; if not for New England's recent success, people would be saying that their drafts are horrible. Just look at the analysis of their draft picks over the past four years, and you'll see similar descriptions. People are so worried about names, that they forget players must also fit the team's system.

yeah but we had the same kind of players during the Ditka days... lol. New England didn't get a bad rep for there drafts though... they were usually in the B range or better.

for sure wheel and i don't want a guy that could be great but has from time to time taken a play off. we have guys from this draft that work hard. we don't need anymore sullies. and myabe if they are drafted this way they don't go out and make non stop god damn penalties like under the haz.

Well I think we had an interesting draft. Asside form the no brainer Reggie pic, implementation of the west you can see the picks were used on guys who would benefit us in the that style offense. Running and quick timing routes is what its all about Zack won't have to run and block far just has to stand there for a second or two... I mean who the hell is going to bowl over this guy???

Zack on goal line offense as full-back but the way it looks he'll be playing Saftey... lol.

BiggPoppaFro4 04-30-2006 03:37 PM

that right there is the key for me 25...those damn penalties.

I lost count of the times I saw us getting up a head of steam and get deflated by stupidity. I swear I almost had a freakin coronary!!!

If Payton gets the penalties down to the top 15 area and gets more production out of our front seven, everything else is gravy.

spkb25 04-30-2006 03:46 PM

i just like having hard workers. people don't like these guys because they haven't heard of them they aren't the big names. oh well the *****ing never ends. i was a little pissed at the safety pick yesterday but i am sarting to think that was an excellent pick too

BoudinSandwich 04-30-2006 03:54 PM

Maybe when Payton came in, he thought our team was incredibly lazy. Because, as you guys have been saying, it looks like he's trying to build a team of desire and discipline.

Maybe that's why we let some of our best guys go - they may have had poor work ethic and poor devotion to the team according to Payton.

It's all theory.

LivnaLieTimay 04-30-2006 03:55 PM

spkb, I'm getting the same feeling. I like that we have chosen overachievers and hard workers as opposed to guys with names we recognize but are lazy and take plays off. The Harper pick had me scratching my head, not because I don't like what I hear from the kid but because we have so many safeties already (makes me think we will be dumping some dead weight at the safety position real soon). I agree with the NE reference, they are known for taking guys that work hard and overachieve, "character guys." I feel like that is what we are trying to do and hopefully it pays off. And oh yeah, we got some guy named Reggie Bush who just so happens to be the best player in the draft!

spkb25 04-30-2006 03:59 PM

with you timay. i agree that the harper pick was wierd becaus we have so many safetys. maybe we are going to start 1 dt 0 lb's and 10 safetys. haha.

spkb25 04-30-2006 03:59 PM

at least to make the team at safety you are going to have to work your arse off. because there is some serious competition in terms of numbers

Ditka drafted High Character guys, but not guys who were High Character AND good football players.

Danny Awful comes to mind as a good christian boy who cant play a lick of proball who Ditka nearly adopted.

I think this was a decent draft. I too am confused about the safety pickup. Hopefully, that will be explained in the coming weeks. Maybe Smith moves to CB, maybe not. Anyway, it's hard to really expect a great draft - and I don't mean this terribly bad against him - when you have an accountant-type running your war room. I don't care whose input he listens to or whatever else, Loomis has said in the past these are his decisions and that bothers me since he is not a football guy.

Unfortunately, RB is an area of need. I love Deuce, but he hasn't been the Deuce that I loved in the past 2 seasons. Last year he had the injury and the year before was just ho-hum with injuries as well (AND the 2 TE set). Let's not forget that the experts say it takes 2 seasons to come back to full speed from a torn ACL and sometimes they never do (see Jamal Anderson). Getting Bush really eases my fears for this position. Not to mention, an analyst said early Saturday that Bush is the kind of runner that'll make your o-line better. So, maybe getting Faine is a good move. We'll just have to see.

I liked the trading down to get the veterans and the veterans we got.

I hated picking another WR right now. We might as well have picked a K in that spot. Yes, we need a possession WR, but you can't expect this guy to play much this year.

Like I said, an decent draft.

fair analysis sotty. i think that hass wiull play even if limited. he will gte his feet wet. i think in the end he will be a very good number 3. maybe even like an ed mccaffery/ eric martin type wide out.
