saints looking for trade?

Saints | Loaded at safety, D. Smith may still be traded
Sun, 30 Apr 2006 06:54:10 -0700

Mike Triplett, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports the New Orleans Saints drafted S Roman Harper in the second round of the NFL Saturday, April 29. The move added another player to an already loaded position. As noted earlier, the team is trying to trade S Dwight Smith. "We're evaluating that. We're going to see what happens," said Saints' general manager Mickey Loomis, who confirmed that the Saints have had discussions with other teams about possibly trading Smith. Saints head coach Sean Payton said he does not anticipate moving any of the Saints' safeties to cornerback.

RE: saints looking for trade?

If we do trade Smith, which I hope we don't, I want a starting cb. I'd also take a starting mlb, olineman or dt. Regardless, if we do trade Smith, we better get a guy who will come in and start and play right away.

And Dwight was so promising.

If you havent noticed the trend yet...Payton does not like guys that have off field or leadership issues...Smith was involved in the whole BB Gun thing. I like Smith but for some reason it seems as though he is done here.

spkb25 04-30-2006 06:46 PM

payton seems to like guys that play and work hard. nothing ever wrong with that

LongTimeFan 04-30-2006 06:53 PM

I like Smith and hope we keep him, but yes Payton wants people that will work and play hard and doesn't have off the field issues which is a plus for Payton.
I love what I see in the Saints so for under Payton..

TIGERSAINT31 04-30-2006 07:07 PM

I like Smith, but coach P must see something we don't. If we do trade it better be for a instant starter not a pick in next years draft

spkb25 04-30-2006 07:12 PM

well tiger i would hope it would be

saintswhodi 04-30-2006 07:13 PM

Didn't Parcells put up with LT doing coke and all that crap? Not saying Dwight is in LT's league, or even universe, but goo dplayers sometimes do stupid things. HE hasn't had ANY issues since he has been in New Orleans and all that crap happened before he became a Saint, and well before we got Payton. I just don't get it. Has to be more than something that happened a year ago or whatever.

spkb25 04-30-2006 07:15 PM

maybe the diffference has to do with the fact that he just got this team and he is tying to send a hard message. might soften a little over time but the way the guys on this have played you can't blame him

Guys who are a little attached to players like Stallworth and Dwight Smith need to be prepared to see these guys traded. Apparently at the mini-camp Payton got a feel for these guys and has determined that they aren't a good fit for us. Stallworth didn't even work out at that mini-camp so it must be something about him that Payton didn't like. Our draft picks reflect that. I don't expect Stallworth or Dwight Smith to be on the team by training camp. I for one like the no-nonsense stance of his.

spkb25 04-30-2006 07:30 PM

with you bro

biloxi-indian 04-30-2006 07:32 PM

I believe Stallworth was in Miami driving around in his BENTLEY, with expired license plates, hasseling the local cops with his "I am a friend of the Chief of Police" mantra. How in the hell can you afford a BENTLEY and not have a valid license plate?

spkb25 04-30-2006 07:38 PM

that seems t be about jutsthinking the law deosn't apply to you

What does wanting to keep a good player have to do with being attached ?Try again.

I wonder where we are going to find a safety to replace Smith in the event we do trade him? Thats tough.

LongTimeFan 04-30-2006 07:49 PM

"maybe the diffference has to do with the fact that he just got this team and he is tying to send a hard message"

For just taking over a new team Payton is doing what Haz couldn't do in all his years with the Saints, not bad for a rookie coach..
Could it be Payton who the Saints have been searching for all those years, will it be Sean who makes us fans proud?

LongTimeFan 04-30-2006 07:51 PM

Loomis seems to be making better decisions as of late?
I love the moves he made since the firing of Haz..
