Saints | Loaded at safety, D. Smith may still be traded
Sun, 30 Apr 2006 06:54:10 -0700 Mike Triplett, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports the New Orleans Saints drafted S Roman Harper in the second round of the NFL Saturday, April 29. The move added another player to an already loaded position. As noted earlier, the team is trying to trade S Dwight Smith. "We're evaluating that. We're going to see what happens," said Saints' general manager Mickey Loomis, who confirmed that the Saints have had discussions with other teams about possibly trading Smith. Saints head coach Sean Payton said he does not anticipate moving any of the Saints' safeties to cornerback. |

RE: saints looking for trade?
If we do trade Smith, which I hope we don't, I want a starting cb. I'd also take a starting mlb, olineman or dt. Regardless, if we do trade Smith, we better get a guy who will come in and start and play right away.

If you havent noticed the trend yet...Payton does not like guys that have off field or leadership issues...Smith was involved in the whole BB Gun thing. I like Smith but for some reason it seems as though he is done here.

I like Smith and hope we keep him, but yes Payton wants people that will work and play hard and doesn't have off the field issues which is a plus for Payton.
I love what I see in the Saints so for under Payton.. |

I like Smith, but coach P must see something we don't. If we do trade it better be for a instant starter not a pick in next years draft

Didn't Parcells put up with LT doing coke and all that crap? Not saying Dwight is in LT's league, or even universe, but goo dplayers sometimes do stupid things. HE hasn't had ANY issues since he has been in New Orleans and all that crap happened before he became a Saint, and well before we got Payton. I just don't get it. Has to be more than something that happened a year ago or whatever.

maybe the diffference has to do with the fact that he just got this team and he is tying to send a hard message. might soften a little over time but the way the guys on this have played you can't blame him
