this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I love the moves he's made starting with the firing of Haz to the draft. How do you all feel about him lately?...

RE: What about Loomis?
Loomis is looking pretty good these days. Hiring Payton appears to be going good so far. I also thought they had a couple decent days this weekend. Okay draft, very much like how they traded down a couple times and acquired some decent veterans at need positions.

RE: What about Loomis?
Loomis get credit when draft "suppose" to be good. Head coach get the fault if it is a bad draft. It is making me wonder if any loomis relatives is on this site. IMHO I think this draft stink. Drafting 2 sec rd safety after paying a great amount to lure Smith into camp now trying to trade him after one yeardon't make any sense. You can't say he don't fit the system after all the players had to play under horrific condition last year. Loomis don't any sense on how he want to build this team he only see numbers.
People might say drafting Haas was a great move but I say that stinx. We have Stallworth Horn Henderson Lewis & Lyman. If you look at the future Stallworth Henderson & Lyman are the building blocks NOT TRADING MATERIAL esp not Stallworth. For some reason cause we have a new coaching staff Loomis believe he have a new lease on life. If I was Benson I would demote him if not hiring a True GM. Plan and simple if Bush didn't fall in our lap this will be his worst draft ever. |

Even though he is the GM I still think Loomis has very liited capacity in personnel judgement. He's a good bean counter. The good part is that he does seem to let the HC make the big calls. I draw this conclusion form how different the peronnel moves have been since haz left. Just like the team of the past few seasons could easily be identified as Haslett's it is now becoming Payton's. Haslett went for the stupendous athlete who might have lacked football smarts, drive, or other issues. Payton seems almost the opposite- gamers, smart players, overachievers, etc. Mueeler might be coming along too in his brother's footprints. Kudos to Loomis for getting out of the football guys way. I still have no confidence in him beside cap/contract management.

When Randy Mueller was here evaluating and bringing in guys Haslett was able to coach them and win. When Haslett had to take on that role is when we started declining. Haslett is a good coach is someone else is doing a good job of giving him guys that can play. I'd be willing to bet the Rams have a pretty good defense this year.

Pros: Lets face it......he's made changes and landed some key talent. You can't say he ain't workin his arse of.
Cons: I myself don't understand the Dwight Smith issue. He is a solid player and i can't understand this desire to get rid him or why he would even allow such a move. |

you haven't read enough of the character standard with Payton? Smith has had his problems before. There was some apparent prank he pulled on Payton in mni-camp that didn't go over very well also. Someone on a board that ran into him somewhere said he seemed like a thug. I like the guy as a player but some coaches run a loose ship and some tight. Coming from the Parcells school I think we can only look for tighter.
