Good Mueller Draft Recap Chat
worth a read-
http://www.neworleanssaints.com/news...articleid=2448 my gleanings- Let's get some guys that we know are going to bring their A game everyday. Even if it's a guy that might be a little lesser player, but we're going to get everything we got out of him. He's going to make everybody else better, let's get him and it's been important and you're right, that's something we talk about with every guy and it's a concern. I got to be honest, we may have said hey, we got two or three guys sitting here. This other guy's got a lot more ability, but this other guy, we know what we're getting. We got a good feel for this kid's background. We got a good feel for his smarts, his toughness, the way he's going to play the game. Let's take this guy and then. Q: Did the turnovers and mental errors of last year point you in that direction? A: "Yes, absolutely. You guys have seen the stats. You're not going to win many games when you turn the ball over, but that certainly plays into it. You're exactly right. I think that comes with being a little bit smarter, being a little bit more mature, being a little bit more responsible. Q: Did you guys sign Cameron Vaughn? A: "We were in the mix with Cameron Vaughn, but we didn't get him." Q: Do you know who got him? A: "I don't. There were a couple of teams in the mix. I want to say Denver, but don't hold me to that." Q: Were you surprised he wasn't drafted? A: "I was a little bit surprised. I think he's a good player. We were in the mix. We tried to get him, weren't able to do it, but we certainly tried." Q: Did you sign an undrafted linebacker? A: "We signed, when I had left I think we had two or three guys agreed to. We haven't signed any of these guys, but I think we agreed with two or three linebackers." Q: Is Hollis Thomas a guy you have been targeting? A: "Really, he and Faine, we talked about those guys for a long time and knew that it would come down to draft day for us. They're guys that we wanted, guys at positions that we felt we needed and guys that we kind of wanted a veteran player there. It's funny, you get him on draft day, but two guys that we targeted. Two guys that we were able to get and not lose much in the way of....We dropped back in two rounds to get those guys and you know you look at that and say, hey, we did give something up, but I think we felt we got the player we would have gotten, targeted where we were at, gotten those two players and picked them up, so we were excited about that. We're kind of counting in those guys to that draft class, because we kind of got those guys and still were able to get the guys we targeted ahead of the round and so, it's a good deal for us. Jeff Faine at least on film is a good player, at least in our evaluations, we think he is. He's still a young guy, he's 25 years old. Jeff's biggest concern is he hasn't been able to stay healthy for a full season and hopefully he'll get that remedied. He's fired up about it. We're excited to have him. I think that will be a good deal. Hollis is a guy...We wanted to get another veteran tackle in here. We need to get better on defense. He was a guy. We were going to do it one way or the other and he was one of two or three guys we had targeted, but a guy we knew. Sean's got a little bit of a history with him. Joe Vitt's got a little bit of a history with him. So, we knew a little bit about this guy. Hopefully he'll be another guy. The one thing that's held those two guys back is some injury bug. Hopefully they're over that and we'll get good players out of them. They are guys that we feel the price we paid for those guys was in our favor." |
