Deuce trade?
So now that we have Bush and 60 safeties, are we planning on keeping Deuce until next year to make sure Reggie is the next L.T. or are we looking to trade Deuce away now and pick up a stud LB? We still have no middle linebacker and we passed on Hodge so I'm wondering what we can get for Deuce to help out the D? Maybe Dan Morgan and some picks?

RE: Deuce trade?
if you been payaing attention you would rwealise Duece has a contract till 2012 and the Saints would take a huge hit in the salary cap if they were to trade him. Duece in untradeable.

I understand that, but there's no possible way we can keep both of these guys happy for long before one of them pulls a McKenzie or Jevon Walker. The way I see it, we're going to take the hit anyway unless we sign Reggie to a short contract and trade him. Morgan is a solid MLB and would greatly help our D. If we are successful now, it will help the city A LOT just like signing Bush.

Eventually
Eventually we might trade Deuce, but that will come in time. Like he said he is contracted until 2012. We cant trade away our guy now before Bush has even proven himself in the NFL. If it happens it will probably be in 2 to 3 years. Look at how successful Kansas City has been with there RB's.

RE: Eventually
Almost every team in the NfL is realizing that you practicaly need two decent RB to have an effective rushing attack. There are so many ways that we can use Bush that he is worth about 3 players (RB, WR, and KR-PR.) I think the only problem that we will have is if he just doesn't want to play for the Saints. Also, their is no way that the Panthers would trade Morgan in their own division or that the Saints would trade Duece to a team in their division.

RE: Re: Eventually
A plus with keeping Deuce around especially with a young Bush coming in who Deuce himself loves it..
A guy at work who loved Deuce is acting like he's no longer needed, a has been, I told him Deuce has been good to the Saints just because you draft Bush don't say Deuce is no longer needed because he is, now I know the NFL is a business and that if they couldn't afford Deuce then the Saints would have to trade him but that's not the case with the Saints, not this season anyway... I want Deuce around, don't turn your back on him now... |
Rest In Peace JoeSam, thanks for everything my friend.

I'm not turning my back on Deuce at all. If you look at my draft grade post you'll see that I will be sad to see him go if and when he does. I'm speaking logistically. I think Deuce will work with Bush and he's a very good player and person. I just don't see him and Bush here until 2012. My point was more that a big reason we got Bush is to help rebuild the city. Having a solid MLB now would help the team be more competitive to win this season to also help the city. Bennet is an outstanding back up for Bush or Deuce so trading Deuce still leaves us 2 excellent RBs and could fill a bid hole on D and help the city. It's fine to disagree with me, but please don't think I consider Deuce old news or that I don't like him. The Panthers need a RB and I'm sure they'd salivate over Deuce big time. We do move a lot of players within our division (Smith and Tebucky for example) so I don't see it as bad for either team.

RE: Re: Eventually
There is no reason to even consider trading Deuce. Reggie projects as a 15 touch per game type of guy. Give him 8 to 10 running attempts, and use him in the passing game. That is where Reggie is projected to be at his best. Still need a stud RB to carry the load around 20 times per game. That is where Deuce is valuable. For Deuce to even think about 30 carries a game is out of the question. Anyone coming off a major knee injury has to take it easy. Let Deuce take around 20 and let Reggie do the rest. This should extend Deuce's career for many years under this type of plan. Deuce should still get around 1200 yards and make the pro-bowl once he is fully recovered.
