RE: Re: RE: An insider’s take on new Saints
Powe did have to go the JUCO route. His recruitment was odd. He was expected to go to Auburn. Never really mentioned LSU, then kinda out of the blue, at the Army All American game he verbals to LSU. Of course, he didn't qualify. He may be a good player, who knows, but DL is definitely a posistion that LSU is extremely deep at, and has recruited very well. Al Woods was rated #1 by Rivals for a while before dropping to somewhere in the top 5 (how does that happen???) http://lsu.rivals.com/viewprospect.a...1&pr_key=35142
Here's the other DT they signed, Deas. He's also supposed to be really good. http://lsu.rivals.com/viewprospect.a...1&pr_key=31235 As highly as those guys are rated, and as hard as they were recruited, they'll have a hard time getting playing time. Dorsey and Favorite are very good. Charles Alexander as well. I don't know much about Lyle Hitt. There's a lot of quality depth at DT at LSU (Are you paying attention, Sean Payton?) and probably not much room for a guy like Powe who only has 3yrs to play 2. I'm not saying LSU didn't want him. I don't know. I'm just saying him going to OM doesn't hurt us very much. Orgeron did hire former O.Perry Walker coach, Frank Wilson. LSU's Craig Davis (WR) and Dominic Cooper (LB) played for him. He may be able to pull some kids out of LA (greater N.O. area), but overall, I don't think we have to worry about competing with the lower tier schools in the SEC for players we want. Since Saban's been there we compete with the schools that are generally in the top 10, and I doubt we're going to have a problem filling those scholarships with the best of the best anytime soon. And, one other thing - No, we haven't taken much out of MS the last couple years, ut the talent level hasn't been there, either, the last couple years. I *think*, I'm not sure, it's supposed to be a good year there this year. LA's also got a lot of good OL this year, which LSU needs. We've already got a couple (7 verbals for '07) already. Don't worry, though. It's more than a coincidence that Orgeron rhymes with moron. OM will be the same old OM - never really posing a threat unless there's a Manning under center. |
