Teams lining up for Bennettposted: Tuesday, May 16, 2006
Add the Kansas City Chiefs to the teams interested in trading for Saints halfback Michael Bennett. Bennett signed with the Saints to be Deuce McAllister's backup, but those plans went the other way when the Saints drafted Reggie Bush. The Texans are the main team trying to acquire Bennett, but the Saints have initiated talks with the Chiefs, who aren't 100 percent sure if Priest Holmes will play this year because of neck problems. Play, incidents add up to Hunter's release: The Seahawks had no choice but to let backup tackle Wayne Hunter go. He recently had a second off-the-field incident involving an assault, but more importantly, he was slipping down the depth chart. The Seahawks have the flexibility of using Tom Ashworth as a tackle or guard and they have Sean Locklear and Walter Jones as their starters. They like the development of another tackle, Ray Willis. Hunter would have had a tough time making the team unless there was an injury. Five for fighting: Reggie Bush's efforts to get No. 5 will have to go to the desk of commissioner Paul Tagliabue. The NFL Competition Committee held a conference call last Friday and talked about changing the uniform numbering policy. Running backs can't have numbers given to quarterbacks and kickers under the current rule. The Competition Committee formulated no opinion on the subject and they haven't been asked to give a recommendation. That means no change can happen this year. Any change would have to happen in 2007. Take your time: The Titans have no problem if it takes an arbiter two weeks to decide Steve McNair's grievance. The Titans are holding out as long as possible hoping that time will heal the wounds between McNair and the team caused by the way they've handled him during the offseason. He's been banned from the facility and the team isn't willing to give him up in a trade to the Ravens for only a fifth-round draft choice. The Titans hope McNair would still want to be a Titan, but that's unlikely as long as the Ravens have interest. That's why the Titans have no problem waiting until June or July. It's unlikely the team will be ordered to release him by the arbiter. |

how about Lenny Walls from KC....he's still young and would hit our cap with a similar figure.
2006 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc. Grade: 71 | Key Alert: None Comment: Good overall athlete for his size. Good overall ball play skills. He gets very good depth in zone coverage. Doesn't have top hips, but he can cover ground with his stride length once he gets turned. Played some in the slot in viewed games. Good ball skills - will pay the ball in the air. Coming off Right shoulder surgery. Doesn't have top transition skills - can be slow to flip his hips - long torso. Has height, but he has more of a wiry frame - could add muscle to his frame. He is an average tackler - not consistent to get guys down out on the island. Shows some wasted motion getting out of his pedal. Overall, he is a tall DC that is still a little raw in his techniques. He has excellent height and long arms. http://proxy.espn.go.com/nfl/players...g?statsId=6199 |

Roaf is still good, but he is on the backside of his mountain and may only have a year or two left in him before choosing to retire. Also, as long as Joe Horn is with the Saints, Willie would never come back. Wasn't there some hanky panky between Joe Horn &Willie's wife or was that all rumors?

I would try to get a player. I say if we can fill another need then lets do it. I just don't know who the Chiefs have that we can use or even obtain for that matter.

Bennett for Tony Gonzalez. Brees gets his tight end. We all win. All Payton has to do is get "Sherm" Edwards on the wacky tobacky and propose it.
