Whodi...... Lets debate why we should have kept him... HE HEE HEEE HE

DJLengai 06-06-2006 05:52 PM

Now we have 60 WR's, 60 LB's, and 60 Safeties and the TE's are catching up. Where are the DT's and CB's? Maybe Ty Law will have a religious moment and decide to play for us.

lynwood 06-06-2006 05:56 PM

Just wonder if the Payton is gonna use the TE. Haz never could figure out what to do with them.

papz 06-06-2006 05:57 PM

WTF... I would have rather a 6 rounder for him. For all that, I would have kept him.

saintswhodi 06-06-2006 05:59 PM

Wow. Why for this guy?

lynwood 06-06-2006 06:01 PM

Either Payton is trying to get the most out of the position players by bringing in more of them to compete or he just wants to get rid of players and take what he can get. Either way he must not like what he sees in some of those positions.

NewMexSaint 06-06-2006 06:13 PM

Maybe SP is great at evaluating talent, or maybe....... spock will beam down and deliver Ray Lewis..HMMMMM

papz 06-06-2006 06:26 PM

What a waste of draft picks we've had for the past... crap... since forever. Where can I apply to get a job for our team?

hagan714 06-06-2006 06:38 PM

OVERVIEW
Tremendous leader and team player who sacrificed personal success for that of the team during his career with the Beavers … Considered to be one of the best pass-catching tight ends in the collegiate ranks, Euhus started 37 consecutive games while playing in 49 contests at OSU … A fine all-around athlete, he also competed for the school's basketball team as a freshman … The civil engineering major not only had a fine career on the football field, but he also excelled in the classroom and found love on campus, marrying OSU graduate Michelle Davis last June … For his career, he hauled in 98 passes for 1,346 yards (13.7 avg.) and nine touchdowns … Only Phil Ross (153 for 1,827 yards, 1985-89) had more catches and receiving yards by a tight end in school history … Has the distinction of earning a letter in basketball (1999-2000) at OSU before earning a letter in football, even though he was on a football scholarship … The last dual football-basketball letterman at OSU was another tight end, Justin Moore, who lettered in basketball as well as football in 1996.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Has a rangy, angular build with the ability to add at least 15 more pounds with no loss of speed … Comes off the line with adequate quickness when running long routes and runs hard all the time, using his leg drive and stiff-arm to run through tacklers … Knows how to use his hands to avoid the jam at the line of scrimmage and weaves through the under-coverage to sink down nicely for the ball … Has good knee bend and hip swerve, using his frame to push and leverage defenders getting into his routes … Capable of making sharp cuts and shows a good relationship with the quarterback, knowing when to come back to find the seam in the short zone when the passer is flushed out of the pocket looking for secondary targets … Presents a good-sized target over the middle and soft hands to ease the ball into his body … Has the body control to get to the off-target throws, especially doing a nice job down field of locking the ball in over his shoulders … Maintains concentration going for the pass in traffic, showing willingness to sacrifice his body to get to the pigskin … Shows good determination to get to the ball when running the seams and has enough athletic ability to get down field and be a threat on long routes … Athletic jumper with good body control, showing ability to frame off-target passes and make the tough catches with defenders draped all over him … Shows a solid leg base, knee bend and face-up determination when asked to block in the short area (more of a finesse blocker).
Negatives: Needs to add more bulk to his frame, one that can also use better muscle tone … Flashes some quickness off the snap (better when lined wide for longer routes), but he is not a sudden mover … Makes sharp cuts in his routes, but lacks explosion … Does not have the speed needed to consistently burst coming out of his breaks … Shows good blocking technique, but does not generate the ideal strength needed to prevent from getting run over by the larger, more physical defenders (gets tossed around quite a bit when trying to drive block or anchor) … Can jump for the ball, if needed, but needs to do a better job of timing his leaps … Must protect the ball better before heading up field (carries the ball too loose, resulting in fumbles).

AGILITY TESTS
4.73 in the 40-yard dash (indoor track) … 4.85 in the 40-yard dash (outdoors) … Bench presses 375 pounds … 465-pound squat … 336-pound power clean … 358-pound push press … 34-inch vertical jump … 34 ?-inch arm length … 9 ?-inch hands … Right-handed

I do not think he is JUST a camp body. I remember this kid. if he makes it you guys will like him i think. Remeber the bills went through alot of QB problems the last few years. I am a little confused with the mass number of players brought in at certain positions also. but what the heck lets see what tomorrow brings. at least we got some thing. it beats nothing. RB, TE and WR are key next year I guess.

NewMexSaint 06-06-2006 06:58 PM

Living is Seattle Ive seen him play against Washington, and remember him being very week in the 4th Q. I think he is the one who allowed 3 sacks in the last 4 mins of play. Im not high on the trade, but addition by subtraction I guess??????? Plus he cant block very well outside the pocket and the last thing we need is our Bress getting reinjury because some bum cant block.. Do I seem Negative towards the guy..... Good becuz I am.

jnormand 06-06-2006 07:47 PM

I can't figure out what all the TE and Safties are for.............I'm glad Coach P knows what he is doing because I sure as hell don't.

smyce 06-06-2006 08:32 PM

We need a TE. It wasnt until Gates showed up that Brees became a Pro Bowl QB. I'm not sure this is the guy, but we do need a viable guy at that spot. Bring in 50 more TE's. I dont care. But we definently one solid guy at TE for Brees to be at his best.

Tobias-Reiper 06-06-2006 09:00 PM

The Saints don't really have TE's...

I like Zach as much as anyone, but he needs to show it on the field. He's not there yet. BTW, he's the only TE listed in the unofficial depth chart.
Ol' butterfingers Conwell may represent the players well off the field, but on the field he can't even impersonate a TE.
Mark Campbell, who is a vet and is ok, I guess..
Then they have nobody, don'tknowhim, and who'shewhowenttoYale...

I think Zach and Campbell stay, then Payton gets one more between the new guy, Ernie -please God no - and all the rest.

JimBone 06-06-2006 09:06 PM

This is the same thing as the Sullivan trade, we got what we could for him. Do you guys honestly think teams are going to give away great players for these guys? These are two guys that were going to be released before the season so at least we get two new guys in to compete. Bethel Johnson has got talent, but he has never put it all together. Euhus has played for some bad QB's but he too has some talent.

And since when do you think our TE situation is a good one. Hilton is still learning, Campbell is a blocking guy (like Lamont Hall) and Conwell has a high cap number and cant stay healthy. So are you satisfied with Billy Miller and Nate Lawrie making the team? Me either. We were lucky to get anything for either one of them.

Now i do expect to do better in the event we trade Dwight Smith or Stallworth. But its not like we gave up alot and got nothing in return.

None of the Chargers WR's were/are very good, though, either.

nola_swammi 06-06-2006 10:29 PM

Now seeing him capable of making a ridiculous trade like this scares me that he will make another decision to trade Stallworth for a 11yr vet (Donnie Edwards) or @ worst a conditional 5th rounder. To get rid of our high round picks for old veterans or picks that were drafted in later round of the same draft tell me either Loomis feel he made mistakes in the past drafts. I believe Payton is making a big mistake. He should make a example out of 1 or 2 player(s) example... Dwight Smith & Jon Sully. It seems to me they're trying to get rid of players with 1 or 2 yrs left on there contracts or won't renogotiate there present contracts. damn, i wouldn't be surprise if this a scheme to get some of the players to renogotiate their contracts.

:bs:

Great point JimBone, this is exactly what I was thinking. Watson was asked not to come to our mini camps, so it was pretty much an awkward situation all around. He wasn't going to be here anyways next season so we might as well have gotten something for him. Some people are calling for draft picks, but maybe nobody wanted to offer draft picks for an oft-injured guy coming off a season-ending injury and a DUI. Euhus obviously doesn't sound good. He has about 100 career receiving yards. But he's young, he had to play for JP Losman, and he does run a 4.73 40-yard dash. He probably won't play, but he might surprise some of us. I'm just glad another distraction is gone. Payton wants his players to know that if they're here, they'll be here to play football and nothing else; and I commend him for that.

O, and also, we will probably be clearing up some cap space assuming that we aren't taking any cap penalties for these trades. We probably saved close to 1 million on the Sully trade, and I don't know how much a second-round linebacker like Watson gets signed for, but I'm sure it was a lot more than what Euhus got.

I have never seen this much trading in the NFL. The NBA trades this much but not the NFL. I hope this trading is not hurting the salary cap. But who knows maybe they are being helped with that by the league.

I wish he had stayed and done well. But I hope these players they are getting turnout to be good. Maybe Payton believes that the defense is better than most people think.

I'd rather keep a backup linebacker with talent than a 4th string TE with some talent.

Hilton, Campbell, Conwell, and Miller are more than capable of handling the TE position on our team. I'm fine with trading away bad apples on our team... but I'd like to get something in equal value or pieces that we need to get better. I don't believe Euhus is one.

Well we traded away a second rounder who has starting experience for a 4th round TE who probably won't be any higher than 4th on our depth chart (if he even makes the team). Granted we didn't give up anything good, but the return didn't make any sense.

And TheDeuce... key word was maybe. I guess we'll never know what was on the table as far as draft picks were concerned. But, I'm pretty sure we could have netted a second day draft choice.

hagan714 06-07-2006 06:25 AM

hey I am not crazy about the trade I think Watson got a bit of a raw deal here under haz. Had to put on wieght and play the middle. I always thought he could have been ok at WLB. Oh well
We carring 3 TE and maybe 1 TE on the practice squad. We got 6 now.
As for the trades I have seen worse with change of coaching. granted this is a bit more than expected. Man o man I please get some picks some where some how.

shrike3000 06-07-2006 10:17 AM

I think that was honestly the best they could get for Watson. The choices were probably that or nothing. I totally support Payton getting rid of the players that don't fit into his new "attitude" for the team. The work ethic and attitude has been horrendous. Cleaning house is the right move!

We were lucky to get a camp body for Watson, and we were lucky to get a potentialy good WR for Sully.

I am worried about the DT, CB and OL..... but I will wait and see on that one. They will probably be our major focus next offseason.

NewMexSaint 06-07-2006 10:20 AM

that TE could possibly used in this trade with Denver, or it could be Conwell, but I dont think they picked him up just for a camp body, the PU has to do with this big Trade going on.

shrike3000 06-07-2006 10:22 AM

You mean the big Ashley Lelie trade involving 3 different teams? I sure hope we are involved in all that. I love all this activity.

NOSaints 06-07-2006 11:34 AM

Payton is a coach that utilizes the TE position well. I think that between Hilton and Euhus, at 6'8" and 6'5" repectively, we could have a good duo. if Euhus shares the TE duties, he may not get tired as quickly and may be a good blocker as long as he is fresh. Think positive Shawn.

JimBone 06-07-2006 12:09 PM

I think some of you may have to start warming up to the fact that Conwell could be on his way out. Not for character reasons, but for the fact that his cap number is about 2.5 million and he hasnt been able to stay healthy...and the fact that he is now a backup. 2.5 million is a lot to pay a starting TE, not to mention a backup. So if the Saints have found one guy to make the team between Euhus and Miller, then they will cut ties with Conwell and go with Hilton, Campbell and Euhus...at least that is my observation.

saintswhodi 06-07-2006 12:13 PM

I can't see why anyone would have any ties to Conwell anyway. What has he done? If his salary is that high, he HAS to go.

AMEN BROTHAAA !! He is another one of Haslett's boys. We should offer him back to the Lambs but they probably won't want him. I would get rid of Conwell before i got rid of Stallworth.

JimBone 06-07-2006 12:33 PM

papz, i understand your point of view on some of that...but dont use the arguement when you say we gave up a guy taken in the 2nd round for a guy taken in the 4th...you know how the draft goes...you know there are a lot of 4th round picks and lower that turned into Pro Bowl players...in fact, 25% of the players in the NFL were undrafted.

mikesaintfan 06-07-2006 12:38 PM

is grant still rumored to be traded?
one of these nobodies + grant for ellis?

saintswhodi 06-07-2006 12:54 PM

No way. Grant is about 100x better than Ellis.

JimBone 06-07-2006 12:58 PM

Charles Grant was never rumored to be traded. And trading him for Ellis would be a joke. Grant is just entering his prime and he has showed flashes of being great...he still needs to prove to me that last year was a fluke but he is on another level than Greg Ellis.

saintswhodi 06-07-2006 01:07 PM

So, you bring out the death stick too hey JimBo? :P

JimBone 06-07-2006 01:09 PM

I saw it laying around and i said what the hell...not bad.

Yeah right ... Watson will be a star in Buffalo, Sully will be a star in NE, and of course Ab will be a star in Oakland. Give me a break !! the only starts those guys will see will be the ones swirling around their heads after they get nailed by a huge lineman.
