Giants Make Roster Moves
Sign former Saints TE Boo Williams; Waive TE Matt Kranchick By Michael Eisen, Giants.com June 8, 2006 EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. –The Giants today exchanged reserve tight ends, signing former New Orleans Saint Boo Williams and waiving Matt Kranchick. Williams, 6-4 and 265 pounds, played for the Saints from 2001-04. He missed the 2005 season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in a preseason game against Baltimore on Aug. 26. He was released by the Saints on Feb. 23. In his four active seasons, Williams played in 59 games with 22 starts. He caught 107 passes for 1,143 yards (10.7-yard avg.) and 12 touchdowns. Williams joined the Saints as an undrafted free agent on April 26, 2001. He was released at the end of training camp and signed to the practice squad a day later. Williams was promoted to the active roster on Oct. 27, 2001. He played in 11 games with four starts that season and finished with 20 catches for 202 yards and three touchdowns. TE Boo Williams gives the Giants depth behind Jeremy Shockey Williams played in all 16 games in each of the next three seasons. In 2002, he started three games and caught 13 passes for 143 yards and two scores. Williams had his finest season in 2003, when he started seven games and finished with career-high totals of 41 catches for 436 yards and five touchdowns, which led all NFC tight ends. He had nine receptions for 110 yards at Philadelphia on Nov. 23, 2003, both career bests. In 2004, Williams started eight games and caught 33 passes for 363 yards and two scores, including five catches for 71 yards and a touchdown at San Diego on Nov. 7. Williams was a two-time junior college All-America at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, where he had 83 receptions for 1,687 yards and 21 touchdowns. He then transferred to the University of Arkansas, where he played wide receiver in 1999-2000. In two seasons with the Razorbacks, Williams caught 80 passes for 1,123 yards (14.0-yard avg.) and 11 touchdowns. He started every game at split end as a senior and finished with 52 catches for 739 yards and seven scores. Williams caught 35 passes for 70 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior at Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Fla. He was also MVP of the basketball team for three consecutive seasons. His given name is Eddie Lee Williams, but he changed it to his childhood nickname of Boo in 2001. Williams was born on June 22, 1979. Kranchick was signed by the Giants off the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice quad on Dec. 19, 2005. He played in two games for the Giants and made two special teams tackles. *The Giants also announced they have released safety Jamaal Brimmer, whom they signed on Jan. 23.
