JoeSam should the Saints then honor all there \"legel binding forces\" and not cut players? Don\'t forget teams renegotiate contracts just as quickly as players when it is in there best interests. As for this being a dangerous precedent, its tough for something happening league wide to be a precident. From the players perspective they are only as good as there last season, injuries, time, competition all make every year potentially the last, there just might not be a next year. From the teams perspective they only have so much money to spred over the entire roster, it would be cap sucide to pay a player who is not producing up to his pay. Contracts routinely get so back loaded everyone knows they will never be played out. This is the reality of NFL football ,it is a game and a buisness. Sometimes a brutal buisness at that. The system in place is an adversarial one, Joe knows that , the Saints know that, the sword of renegotiation cuts both ways.

Saint5221, very much of what you say is true. However, very few players these days have a no cut clause in their contracts. I\'m pretty sure that somewhere in the contract it has a clause for being cut for lack of performance. It is true that that is the way of the NFL these days. I find it hard to believe however that the team isn\'t covered in the player contract more than the player is. That\'s corporate America for you. You go to work for someone with a good contract with them, but if they want you out, you can bet they\'ll find a way to nullify the contract with you. The old iron clad contract of players these days are gone i\'m afraid. As far as the league precedent, I think that\'s what I said. It is a league problem.
