this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I haven't heard anything going on with Bush & Saints about his contract. I hope they get it done soon, camp starts July 28th....

Can you say camp hold out? If he doesn't sign until preseason I wouldn't be surprised at all... said that the moment he was drafted.

I believe that Bush will sign before camp for 2 reasons:
First, I think that anyone that does this much for the community BEFORE he signs will not be a hold out. Secondly, I think Benson won't go cheap this time. He knows that this kid is one of the best things to happen to this franchise during his tenure. IMO 8) |

On ESPN they were floating the rumor that Bush was asking for an 8% increase over what the #2 received last year. They said that was a fair markup, and fair market value. They also said he wanted to keep it hush hush so as not to become a distraction. This was said on a program, so I can't post a link.

As with any contract, I would say the biggest issue is probably guaranteed money, or at least incentives that are very likely to be earned. The total dollar value of the contract means very little. I do not think Benson is going to low ball him. Benson does have a reputation of being a little bit cheap, in his defense I will say he normally does the right thing with the stars of his teams. He pretty much demonstrated that throughout his tenure as owner.
