Young-Titans negotiations heating up

NFL.com wire reports

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 18, 2006) -- Negotiations with the Tennessee Titans for their top draft pick, Vince Young, will begin face-to-face July 20, and his agent said he expects the quarterback will be signed in time for the start of training camp.

"I'm pretty confident we'll get it done," Major Adams said. "I'll be in Nashville on Thursday, and then I'll stay until it's done."

Adams, who has never negotiated a major deal in football, said he talked with general manager Floyd Reese briefly July 15. He said he believes a contract can be reached before the Titans' first practice on July 28.

The Titans announced they had agreed to terms with six of their 10 draft picks. They are studying contract structures and will have something they can use for negotiations.

Adams has studied the contract of Alex Smith, the quarterback who was the top overall pick last year. Young was the first quarterback selected in this year's draft and the No. 3 pick overall.

"But it's just for a guide," Adams said of the Smith deal. "Vince has certain attributes that he has. We have to incorporate certain things for his contract."

The Houston Texans signed defensive end Mario Williams, the top pick in this year's draft, to a six-year contract.

Young became only the fifth player in NCAA history to pass and rush for more than 200 points in his career and is the only Division I-A player to throw for more than 250 yards and run for 250 more in a game.

Since moving to Tennessee, the Titans have failed to sign their top draft pick before training camp opened only twice: defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth in 2002 and cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones in 2005.

But Young, who led Texas to the national championship last year, is the franchise's highest draft pick since taking Steve McNair at No. 3 overall in 1995. McNair was not signed before the start of training camp.

If 1 and 3 sign REGGIE shouldn't be far behind, in theory

Vince Young should sign the contract soon. He can't read, so he won't know if he's getting screwed. "Vince, just sign where the X is. Don't worry about the jibber-jabber on the other 12 pages."

Vince is a QB who thinks he sould get paid more than a DE or a RB. Bush thinks he should get paid more than Mario. I think that Vince will TRY to wait and see what Reggie gets.
