Random Thoughts...
As far as baseball uniforms go, hard to beat the Cardinals' look in white. Tulane does ok, but the pelicans look a little cartoony. I'm not sold on Brees' health and durability. Martin was a good pick-up. Bouman stays. If the O-line proves pourous, A-Mac gets a coupla snaps. He's a season away from being a permanent clip-board carrier. Bush will sign. Endorsements alone say he will. Adidas, Subway and the rest have been at the contract game awhile, too. If you don't "represent", you're gonna take a big hit. There's a reason Tiger Woods played in all those Buick Opens. Reggie can't and won't sit out the season. Excuse me while I yawn.... I wasn't a big LeCharles fan and didn't hold him in the high regard some of you did. I don't see all the games ya'll do. The ones I did see, there were many instances where his head was on a swivel watchin' defenses blow past him. I hate it for him. I've felt bad for injuries ever since Napoleon got busted up in that Raider game awhile back. That bike rider Landis needs to call Armstrong's handlers. Pronto. The closest conference battle will be the NFC East - Redskins, Cowboys, Eagles and Giants. Their play versus the Saints will be the difference. Saints run a 3-4? It's hurricane season. Be smart. The first time you have to seriously consider whether to stay or go? Go. 8) |

One of the better running back picks was made by New England. Minnesota's Laurence Maroney is gonna be a good fit. Where he may never compete for a rushing title, given good health and opportunity to ease into the position, he'll be one of those rock-steady, dependable backs all teams wish for. Before Reggie fell into our laps, I was hopin' we could snag Maroney somehow before someone else called his number.
National media and Titans are all googly-eyed over QB Vince Young. Don't hear much about Lendale White, do ya? If he matures and gets his head in the game....watch out! Keep an eye on Minnesota senior QB Brian Cupito. Steady improvement each year. One of those field general types. Won't set the Big Ten on fire and win the title. But Cutler and Vandy didn't, either. I'll say it again. Snagging offensive assistant and tight end guru George Henshaw from the Titans' staff was a coup. The only thing I can think of that wouldv'e made that deal a little sweeter would be Henshaw bringing Ben Troupe with him. A Saints 3-4 isn't out of the question. Who knows what Payton, Gibbs and staff have up their sleeves. I know, we don't have the personell to pull it off. But recent defensive aquisitions make it a little more possible. Signing rangey Polley and big numbers at safety/corner makes you think. You may be right, the Saints can't swing it. I hope we can..... Most offensive coordinators will tell you the reason the 3-4 is successful is they don't face it week to week. It's tough enough for offensive game planning without adjusting to an occasional 3-4. The recent success of the 3-4 isn't necessarily the ability of players or some grand scheme, it's the lack of time preparing an offense to combat it. Hmm... Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma and even Mississippi State had success with the wishbone. The reason the wishbone was successful wasn't because it was some grand scheme. It was because opposing defenses were built to defend multiple offense stuff. Those defenses had to completely change their scheme and mindset in one week of practice. If we can somehow pull off a 3-4 and are good at it, I'm for it. If we score 18 or more, and hold them to 17 or less. We win. 8) |

My 'Noles aren't big time contributors - Montrae isn't the top dog, Tony gets a little PT every now and then. A-Mac's tutor is workin' overtime. Talman's probably crusin' around Atlanta talkin' about the good ole days....
We're all excited about the re-birth of the Dome. But keeping the Saints in New Orleans long term may require a move to the north shore - stadium, facilities and all. Before you squawk, think about it. Benson gets his new stadium, high ground, and business from Slidell to Hammond prospers. The Cowboys play in Irving and the Giants play in Jersey.... Food for thought. 8) |
